Specialist Durability Solution dialog box
| Name - Description | |
|---|---|
| Name | Sets a name for the specialist durability solution process. The name is displayed in the Simulation Navigator as the node name for the specialist durability solution process. |
| Description | Sets a description for the specialist durability solution process. |
Analysis Setup page
| Analysis Setup | |
|---|---|
| Lets you select an analysis template, inspect or define values for durability simulation objects, and add durability simulation objects. | |
| Analysis Template | Specifies the analysis template.Stress LifeSuitable for isotropic material parts that are subjected to stresses with values below or close to the elastic limit, and exhibit high-cycle failure.Strain LifeSuitable for isotropic material parts that are subjected to local plasticity and typically exhibit low-cycle failure.InterlaminarSuitable for damage interface materials between plies of long-fiber composites, or between arbitrary parts. It determines the delamination durability of the material using a progressive failure approach.Van PaepegemSuitable for orthotropic materials that are assigned to balanced 2D woven fabrics. It determines the durability of the fiber and matrix system using a progressive failure approach.Short Fiber Master SN CurveSuitable for orthotropic materials representing short-fiber composite materials. It determines the durability of the fiber and matrix system using an SN curve approach.Nominal Stress Seam Weld, Notch Stress Seam WeldSuitable for seam weld fatigue analysis. The nominal stress approach uses base flange solver stresses, whereas the advanced notch stress approach internally computes the weld stresses from the solver force results.Force Based Spot Weld, Stress Based Spot WeldSuitable for spot weld fatigue analysis. The force based approach recovers solver beam or constraint element forces and back-calculates stresses, whereas the stress based approach extracts flange solver stresses. When you select an analysis template, the software automatically loads the durability simulation objects into the durability simulation objects list as per the analysis template settings, which include required and optional parameters. |
| Durability Simulation Objects | |
| Hide Optional Undefined Objects | Hides the optional durability simulation objects with a value set to none in the durability simulation objects list. |
| Add to List | Opens the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box that lets you add durability simulation objects, filtered to those specified in the analysis template, to the durability simulation objects list. |
| Reset to Default | Resets the durability simulation objects list, as per the analysis template settings, and removes all your modifications. A confirmation warning prevents an unintended reset. |
| Durability simulation objects list | List all the required and optional durability simulation objects that define the parameters and the behavior of the solution process. This list is generated based on the selected analysis template. Changing the analysis template potentially changes the list of simulation objects:Missing simulation objects are added according to the settings of the analysis template. The simulation objects that are configured to be present in both analysis templates are not removed. However, the values of those objects are updated to the default value of the new analysis template, except when the default value in the new analysis template is None, and when you modified the object before the change.Any simulation object that is not configured to be part of the new analysis template is removed from the list. The list displays the following information that you can sort using the column headings:TypeDisplays the durability simulation object type.ObjectDisplays the value of the durability simulation object.OptionIndicates whether the durability simulation object is required or optional. This depends on the analysis template.Status Indicates that the durability simulation object value is defined. Indicates that a required durability simulation object value is set to none. You must assign a value to the required simulation objects. Indicates that an optional durability simulation object value is set to none. When you right-click a simulation object from the list, the following commands appear: InspectOpens the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box that lets you inspect the parameters of the selected durability simulation object when its value is not set to none.Choose Simulation ObjectOpens the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box, filtered by the selected object type, and lets you select, edit, inspect, or create a durability simulation object of that type.InformationOpens an information window that lists the simulation object property values.Note: You cannot remove a simulation object from the list, however, you can set its value to none. |
| Type | Displays the type of the durability simulation object that you select from the list. |
| Object | Specifies the value of the durability simulation object that you select from the list.Select None if you want the solotion to ignore a selected optional durability simulation object. |
| Manage Objects | Opens the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box, filtered by the selected object type, and lets you select, edit, inspect, and create a durability simulation object of that type. |
Load Definition page
| Load Definition | |
|---|---|
| Event | Specifies the load event associated to the solution process. The software adds the selected event as a simulation navigator node under the durability solution process node. |
| Manage Events | Opens the Events Manager dialog box that lets you create, modify, or select a load event. |
Material Definition page
| Material Definition | |
|---|---|
| Material | Specifies the materials for the fatigue analysis. The available options are:Inherit from SIM/FEMAllows the solution process to access the materials, as per their assignment in the FEM.Local materialsLets you select a single local material, which is assigned to all the elements in the solution process. |
| Select Material | Opens the Material List dialog box that lets you create, modify, or select a material from the local or library materials. |
| Plot Materials | Available when you select a local material from the Material list.Lets you select the type of the material plot to display:Stress-LifePlots the material's SN-curve on a log-log scale. The X-axis is the fatigue life, or the number of cycles to failure, and the Y-axis is the stress amplitude. For more information, see Defining SN-curves.Ramberg-OsgoodPlots the stress amplitude versus the strain amplitude on a linear-linear scale. For more information on modeling of the stress-strain material behavior in the strain-life analysis, see Local stress-strain behavior.Manson-Coffin-MorrowPlots the strain amplitude versus the number of cycles to failure, based on the Manson-Coffin-Morrow equation, on a log-log scale. For more information on how the fatigue life, which is the number of cycles to failure, correlates to the strain amplitude, see Constant amplitude life curves.Strain-LifePlots both Ramberg-Osgood and Manson-Coffin-Morrow curves as stacked graphs. If any of the required material properties are not defined, the software displays a warning message. For more information on the required durability material properties for the stress life and strain life analysis, see Required material properties for specialist durability analysis.Note: Plot materials does not support the materials with temperature dependent properties.Plot materials excludes the specified R-Ratio durability property for the material, and sets the R-Ratio value to -1 for generating the plots. |
