Automatically create panels

In a Simcenter Nastran vibro-acoustic analysis, a panel lets you specify 2D structural elements on which to request panel contributions to pressure responses. You can create panels automatically from groups of acoustic fluid nodes that are mapped to structural nodes, and you can export the panels to an external file.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, make sure the solution you want to add panels to is active.

  2. Choose Acoustics and Vibration tab→Mapped Panel.

  3. In the Mapped Panel dialog box, click Select Groups to select groups of acoustic fluid nodes.

  4. In the Group Selection dialog box, to create a new group of acoustic fluid nodes, next to Group Reference, click New Group and complete the New Group dialog box.For more information, see Create a group by manually selecting the contents.

  5. To add one or more groups to the Selected Groups table, right-click the desired groups and choose Select.Tip: Use the Name and Label options to reduce the number of groups in the Group Reference table.Use the Ctrl or Shift keys to select multiple groups.

  6. Click OK.The selected groups appear in the Source Acoustic Groups and Output tables of the Mapped Panel dialog box.

  7. (Optional) To remove a group that you selected in the Group Selection dialog box, select the group in the Source Acoustic Groups list and click Remove selected groups from the list .

  8. Specify the structural entities for the mesh mapping in one of the following ways:Click All Structural Meshes.Click Custom Selection and select individual entities:In the Simulation Navigator, select meshes or selection recipes.Note: The selection recipes must contain at least one structural 2D or 3D element, element face, or mesh.In the graphics window, select elements, element faces, or meshes.

  9. In the Mesh Mapping group, use the default mesh mapping parameters or enter values for:Maximum Distance to set the maximum search distance between structural and acoustic fluid nodes.Number of Influencing Nodes to set the number of nodes to be considered within the maximum search distance.

  10. (Optional) Rename output names in the Output table to:Unique names by double-clicking a cell in the Output Structural Group or Output Structural Panel column.Input Acoustic Group names by right-clicking a cell and selecting the Use Input Group Name as Panel Name command. The software replaces the Output Structural Panel with the Input Acoustic Group names. The name is truncated if it is greater than eight characters.

  11. (Optional) To export the panels to a Nastran BDF (.bdf) file or data file (.dat):Select the Export Panels check box.Enter a path and file name or click Browse to open the File to export dialog box.

  12. Click OK to create the new panels.

New panels are added under the Simulation Objects Container.
