Part files modified by Geometry Optimization

Depending on the design variables you define, the software applies the optimization changes to the following part files.

If the design variable is: The optimization modifies this part file:
Section or shell property FEM file and Simulation file
Expression (interpart expression) Idealized part file and master part file
Sketch dimension (interpart expression) Idealized part file and master part file
Feature dimension (interpart expression) Idealized part file and master part file

Note:

  • The Design Variables dialog box may list expressions that reside in the master part file that are not interpart expressions. However, if you select an expression that originates in the master part, the software automatically generates an interpart expression, and references the interpart expression as the design variable.

  • The master part file is write-locked if interpart expressions are used in the idealized part file. This can occur when the optimization changes the master model dimensions. In most cases, the master part file will not be changed and will not be write-locked. You can remove the write lock to allow a new design to be saved to the master part file. To remove the write lock, in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the master part and choose Remove Write Lock. When you remove part features, the software always applies those changes to the idealized part file.
