Video: Create and export a results envelope
Use the Envelope command to compare two or more results and return the minimum or maximum value as a unitless, scalar quantity. You can perform the envelope operation on the entire model, specified nodes or elements, or selection recipes. You can also output a second result containing the ID of the load case that contained the minimum or maximum value.
The following figure shows Von Mises stress on a welded structure under three different loading conditions: (1) bottom pressure, (2) rib pressure, and (3) hydrostatic pressure. Viewport 4 shows the maximum stress envelope for all load cases.
Approaches to generating envelopes
You can use the Approach list in the Results Envelope dialog box to specify the results envelopes to be generated. For example, generate a results envelope for each selected component or combine them. For more information, see Approaches to generating envelopes.
Applying nodal or elemental averaging
When performing envelope operations, you can average elemental or element-nodal result values across nodes or elements. The Results Envelope dialog box contains a Result Combination button to display the Result Combination dialog box, which lets you select to average across nodes, elements, or none.
If you select to average results, the software generates the appropriate type of results envelopes. For example, for element-nodal results, the software generates the following results.
If you select to average element-nodal results across nodes, the software generates results envelopes of nodal results.
If you select to average element-nodal results across elements, the software generates results envelopes of elemental results.
Limitations
If the coordinate system you select cannot be applied to all the results in the results set, the software uses the default coordinate system for those results.
If you select to average results and the result set contains results that cannot be averaged, the software performs the averaging on only those results that are supported for averaging.
