0D meshing

You can use the 0D Mesh command to create point-based or scalar elements at specific nodes. Although the types of elements you can create with the 0D Mesh command depend upon your specified solver, point-based elements typically include:

  • Concentrated mass elements.

  • Certain types of spring elements.

Typically, 0D elements are used to add concentrated mass or loading to a model. In general, 0D elements do not influence the static behavior of a model.

You can also use the 0D Mesh command create lumped masses at the center of gravity of selected bodies or selected meshes. For more information, see Lumped masses at the center of gravity.

Create 0D elements on geometry or nodes

You can create 0D elements on geometry or directly on nodes.

  • To create 0D elements on geometry, use the 0D Mesh command to select geometry, such as edges, faces, points on edges or faces, or polygon vertices. If you select a face or an edge, the software creates the 0D elements when you mesh that face or that edge, respectively. If the mesh on that face or edge later changes, the software recreates the 0D elements when it updates the mesh on the edge or face.If you select points on an edge or face, the software creates those 0D elements immediately. If the mesh changes on that face or edge, the software does not recreate the 0D elements on the points on the edge or face.

  • To create 0D elements on nodes, use the Element Create command to select the appropriate nodes. The software creates the 0D elements immediately. However, if the mesh to which the node belongs changes, the software does not recreate the 0D element. For more information, see Manually creating elements.
