FRF and Transmissibility

Frequency response function (FRF) is a transfer function that lets you evaluate the frequency response of one or several selected output nodes or elements to a unit force load at a selected input node. Transmissibility lets you evaluate the frequency response of one or several output nodes or elements to an enforced motion such as displacement, velocity, or acceleration at a selected input node.

You can evaluate displacement, acceleration, velocity, stress, strain, shell stress resultant, or reaction force.

Results are displayed under the FRF and Transmissibility Results node in the Simulation Navigator. The response functions are stored as function records in an AFU file with the same name as your Response Dynamics solution process. In the AFU file, the node or element ID and input and response directions are reflected in each function's name. For example, 23_(91X+,1001Y+)_1 means the function “23” is the input at node 91 in the positive X direction and response at node 1001 in the positive Y direction.

Where do I find it?

  • Choose Response Dynamics tab→Response Dynamics group→Evaluate FRF or Evaluate Transmissibility .

  • Simulation Navigator → right-click the Response Dynamics solution process node and choose Evaluate FRF or Evaluate Transmissibility
