Heat Generation dialog box (Nastran)

Type
Type Controls how you define the rate of heat generation.Volume heat addition with control point lets you define the rate of volumetric heat addition in a conduction element.Volume heat addition with control point — spatial lets you define the rate of volumetric heat addition in a conduction element using a field. Spatial boundary condition types are best for applying externally generated results to your model. The spatial type lets you map the field directly to a global or local coordinate system. For more information, see QVOL in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide.
Destination Folder
Load Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Model Objects
Group Reference Lets you apply the heat generation load to a group. For more information, see Group Reference options.
Select Object Lets you select the geometry or FE entities on which the load will be applied. Use the Excluded options to remove individual entities, such as elements or edges, from your selection.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Control Point
Select Object Lets you select the control point for the heat generation load. The temperature at the node is used to multiply the heat generation terms. This option corresponds to the CNTRLND field on the QVOL bulk data entry.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Magnitude
QVOL Specifies the magnitude of the heat generation load (the power input per unit volume produced by a heat conduction element). This option corresponds to the QVOL field on the QVOL bulk data entry.Select Expression to define the magnitude of the load as a constant value or as an expression.Select Field to define the magnitude of the load as varying with time or temperature. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Specify Field Lets you select or create a field.
Scale Factor Defines a scale factor for the load magnitude.
Distribution
Appears when Type is set to any non-spatial heat generation load.
Method Defines how the heat generation load is distributed over the selected objects.Constant: Applies the magnitude of the load as a constant value.Spatial: Uses a unitless field to map the distribution of the heat generation load to the elements. A field is always mapped to global or Cartesian coordinates, even if it was defined in cylindrical or spherical coordinates.
Distribution Field
Specify Field If you select Spatial from the Method list, defines how the heat generation load is distributed over the elements in the selected area.
Card Name Displays the name of the solver card for the load.
