Create an assembly FEM file

  1. Open the File New dialog box by doing one of the following:Right-click the assembly part node in the Simulation Navigator, and choose New Assembly FEM.Choose MenuFileNew.Choose File tab→New .

  2. In the File New dialog box, click the Simulation tab and select an Assembly Fem template.

  3. In the File Name box, enter a unique file name.

  4. If necessary, click Choose Directory to change the directory where the new file is stored.

  5. Click OK.The New Assembly FEM dialog box is displayed.

  6. You can create either an associate or non-associative assembly FEM:To create an associative assembly FEM, select Map to part and choose a part from the loaded parts list. Select Assembly Parts Only to filter the loaded parts list to display only assembly parts. Or click Open to browse for an assembly part file.To create a non-associative assembly FEM, clear the Map to part check box.

  7. Choose the solver to use.

  8. Choose the type of analysis to perform.

  9. (Optional) To include axisymmetric, plane strain, or plane stress elements, select the appropriate plane for the 2D solid elements, as well as the axis of rotation.

  10. Click OK.The Simulation Navigator displays the assembly FEM file. If you create an associative assembly FEM, the loaded assembly part is shown as a child of the assembly FEM node, and the component parts are shown as children of the assembly part node. Assembly FEM Loaded CAD assembly CAD component part (Ignored) CAD component part (Ignored) CAD component part (Ignored) CAD component part (Ignored) Because the CAD components are not currently mapped to component FEMs, their status is set to Ignored, which means they will not be considered during the analysis. Because there are no FEM components in the new assembly FEM, the graphics window is empty. For steps to map an assembly component to a component FEM, see Map an assembly component to an existing FEM file.
