User Defined Constraint dialog box
| Type | |
|---|---|
| Appears when the solution type is Simcenter Nastran, MSC Nastran, or Abaqus. Note: For Abaqus, appears when you create the zero-valued boundary constraint at the step level. | |
| Type | For Simcenter Nastran or MSC Nastran, specifies the Nastran bulk data entry to use to define the constraint. SPCDefines a single point constraint using the SPC entry. The SPC entry is the most general way of specifying single point constraints. To apply the constraint to models in both the Simcenter Nastran Axisymmetric Structural and Structural environments, select SPC ZX or SPC XY.SPC1Defines a single point constraint using the SPC1 entry. The entry is a less general entry that is more convenient when several grid points have the same components constrained to a zero displacement.See Using SPC and SPC1 in the Simcenter Nastran User's Guide for more information. For Abaqus, lets you create a zero-valued boundary constraint. Zero-Valued BoundaryCreates a zero-valued boundary condition that applies a constraint to one or more DOFs. For more information, see Zero-Valued Boundary Constraint dialog box (Abaqus). |
| Name | |
| Name | Sets a unique name for the user-defined constraint. |
| Description | Sets a description for the user-defined constraint. To manage the text, you can use the Cut , Copy , and Paste commands. |
| Destination Folder | |
| Constraint Container | Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command from the Simulation Navigator. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container. |
| Folder Manager | Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder. |
| Model Objects | |
| Group Reference | Lets you apply the constraint to a group. For more information, see Group Reference options. |
| Select Object | Lets you select the geometry or FE entities on which the constraint will be applied.Use the Excluded options to remove individual entities, such as edges, from your selection. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Direction | |
| Displacement CSYS | Specifies the displacement coordinate system to use for the constraint. You can select Existing to use the currently defined coordinate system for the selected nodes or geometry, or you can create one of the following types of local coordinate systems: Cartesian, Cylindrical, or Spherical.Note: In Pre/Post, if a global cyclic analysis coordinate system is defined in the FEM file, you can also select Global Cyclic Analysis to use the currently defined coordinate system for the selected nodes or geometry. |
| Local | Lets you create or select a local coordinate system. |
| Degrees of Freedom | |
| DOF1–DOF6 Note: For Design Simulation, you can set the degrees of freedom for only DOF1 through DOF3. | Specifies the magnitude of the enforced displacement for each of the degrees of freedom (DOF).FreeAllows free movement in the DOF.FixedAllows no movement in the DOF (degree of freedom).DisplacementFor DOF 1–3, lets you define the amount of translational displacement in the DOF. RotationFor DOF 4–6, lets you define the amount of rotation in the DOF.Note: In Pre/Post when the 2D Solid Option is set, the DOF1–DOF3 options are specific to an axisymmetric analysis on the axisymmetric plane and rotational axis.DOF1 is the radial direction.DOF2 is the normal direction.DOF3 is the axial direction. |
| All Free | Sets all DOFs to free. |
| All Fixed | Sets all DOFs to fixed. |
| Displacement Coordinate System or Method (Abaqus only) | Displays the solver-specific coordinate system for the constraint. |
| Card Name | Displays the name of the solver card for the constraint. |
| Additional magnitude options for boundary conditions | |
|---|---|
| You can define the magnitude with a constant value, expression, or field. You can:Type a constant value directly in the box.Type an expression directly in the box. As you begin to type the expression, tooltips provide hints about valid parameter names. If you type an invalid or incomplete expression, the warning icon appears next to the box.Click and select: | |
| Expression | Opens the Expressions dialog box, where you can select an existing expression or create a new one.For more information about expressions, see Expressions. |
| For more information about other options in the list, see Additional magnitude options. |
