Create the design objective and response
You can define the design objective for design optimization at either the solution level or in any of the solution's subcases.
Open the Solution or Solution Step dialog box:If you are defining the objective at the solution level, edit the solution. In the Solution dialog box, click the Case Control tab.If you are defining the objective at the subcase level, edit one of the subcases.
Click Create Modeling Object (next to Design Objective).
In the Name box, type a descriptive name for the objective, such as Minimize Weight.
From the Method list, select MIN (minimize) or MAX (maximize).
Click Create Modeling Object (next to Response).
In the Name box, type a descriptive name for the response, such as Weight Response.
In the Label box in the Response Definition group, type a short descriptive label for this response. When you solve the solution, this label is written to the .f06 file to identify this response.
From the Response Type list, select the type of quantity to optimize, such as Total Model Weight (WEIGHT).
Type or select the appropriate values for the selected response. For information about the response attributes, see the DRESP1 bulk data entry. The stress, strain, and force responses require an item code that specifies the type of element output and the component. For example, linear stress at the center of a CQUAD4 (element code 33), von Mises component at the Z1 fiber location (bottom side of the element) is represented by item code 9. For a list of item codes, see Item Codes.Note: For a stress response, you must select a physical property table. Make sure that the mesh collector that references the physical property table contains only a single element. If necessary, you can use the Element Extract command to move an element out of an existing mesh to create a single-element mesh. Some response types require you to specify a node or element using a group. You can select an existing group or create a new one. To create a new group, click New Group . For more information about groups, see Groups.Note: Make sure the group contains only a single node. A design response for a design objective must specify only a single node.
Click OK to finish creating the response.
