Visualize structural node contribution, Element ERP, and directivity data

This example shows you how to use the Grid Contribution scenario to visualize structural node (grid) contributions from a Simcenter Nastran FEM vibro-acoustic solution. Use a similar procedure and applicable scenarios for the other types of output — Element ERP (Equivalent Radiated Power), directivity of sound sources, and other similar data.

Before you can view structural node contributions, you must define grid contribution output requests in your vibro-acoustic model. For more information, see Define grid contribution parameters.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, expand the Results node→right-click the Vibro-Acoustic node→Post-Processing Scenario.

  2. In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator that appears, in the Scenarios subpanel, expand the NVH node, if necessary.

  3. Right-click Grid Contribution and choose Plot.If multiple viewports are open, select a viewport. The Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator displays values specific to the selected data source under the active viewport node.

  4. Select Grid Contribution Data and from the data set list, select Structural Node Contributions to Pressure.

  5. Select Mesh Source and from the data list, select the structural mesh that contributes to the total response at an acoustic node.

  6. Select Acoustic Node and from the data list, select a node. For example, select a node that simulates the microphone location at a driver's or passenger's ear in a vehicle.

  7. In the Selection node, from the Frequency list, select a forcing frequency on which to focus.

  8. If multiple subcases exist, from the Subcase list, select the subcase you want to plot.

  9. At the bottom of the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, click Plot or Plot in New Viewport.Depending on your selection, the software displays a new contour plot of the structural node contributions or updates the existing one.Note: Nominal values below the dB reference are displayed as negative dB values.

  10. (Optional) To view series of results for other frequencies, use the Animate, Previous Mode/Iteration, or Next Mode/Iteration commands.

  11. (Optional) To save the layout, see Manage layout states.
