Extract L-curve regularization values

This example shows you how to:

  1. Plot both the residual norms and tolerance values of the L-curve stacked in one view.

  2. Extract tolerance values at each forcing frequency for a manual regularization in subsequent solutions.

Plot L-curve

  1. Choose Results tab→Layout group→Single View .

  2. In Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, right-click the Data Sources node, and choose New Data Source from Navigator. In the Simulation Navigator, select a data source that contains auto regularization results from an Inverse Numerical Acoustics solution. The software creates auto regularization results when you choose the Adaptive Pruning Method in the Regularization dialog box.

  3. In the Scenarios subpanel, expand the NVH node, if necessary.

  4. Right-click Inverse Numerical Acoustics (L-Curve) and choose Plot. The plot appears in the viewport.Data visualization XY plotThe Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator displays values specific to the selected data source under the active viewport node. 5. Choose the Subcase and Frequency you want for the manual regularization and click Apply changes made to the current Post Scenario .

  6. To visualize the help lines, right-click the blank area between the two plots, and choose Probing ModeSingleX.One help line in each plot is displayed.Data visualization XY plot with help lines

  7. Hover over the help line and drag the line to the left or right to an area where a steep negative slope transitions to a gradual (less steep) negative slope. The software displays the new norm values in the upper plot and the new corresponding tolerance values in the lower plot.Data visualization XY plot with new values

  8. Right-click the Probing Text on the graph in the upper plot and choose Inverse Numerical Acoustics (L-Curve)Select Value for Regularization.Data visualization XY plot with Select Value for Regularization optionThe software displays the label Manual Regularization next to the new norm value in the upper plot.Data visualization XY plot with manual regularization labelThe software creates a Regularization modeling object that references a field containing the manually selected tolerance values. When there is an active Inverse Numerical Acoustics solution, the software sets the Regularization option in the Solution dialog box to the regularization modeling object with the manual tolerance values.

  9. Right-click the blank area between the two plots, and choose Exit Probing Mode.

  10. Repeat step 5 until you find all the values you want to use for the manual regularization.

  11. In the Simulation Navigator, expand the Fields node.

  12. Right-click the Manual Tolerance Field and choose Edit. The Definition tab of the Table Field dialog box lists a tolerance value for each frequency. To reference this field, in a Regularization modeling object, you must set the Method to Manual. To use the new manual tolerance values in a new Inverse Numerical Acoustics solution or solution step, in a Regularization modeling object, you must set the Method to Manual and reference the Manual Tolerance Field.
