The .run configuration file (Simcenter Samcef)

The Simcenter Samcef .run configuration file contains strategy control parameters for transient analyses.

In the Simcenter Samcef environment, you can modify some parameters during the run by editing this file in the Solver Monitor window.

File structure

The file starts with an EXIT keyword, followed by a list of all of the Simcenter Samcef control parameters and their current values.

To modify a control parameter, edit the file in the Solver Monitor window. Before the EXIT keyword, copy and paste the parameter and type the desired control value, as in this example:

ISTO 999EXITITER 12...

At each time step, the solver reads the file and updates its control parameter values with the ones you define before the EXIT keyword.

The change appears in the .res listing file and is cached by the Solution Monitor. For more information on the Solution Monitor, see Solution monitoring (Simcenter Samcef).

Strategy parameters

The following table lists the most important strategy parameters you can modify:

Parameter Description
ISTO The ISTO parameter controls at which solution stage you want to stop the solver.In most cases, use an ISTO 999 value. This value forces the solver to properly stop solving at the next time step and save the results for post-processing.
ITMA Maximum number of iterations allowed within an implicit time step during a subcase solve.
PRCR, PRCE PRCRPrecision threshold for the residual norm.PRCEPrecision threshold for the energy.You can modify these parameters to solve contact or glue conditions convergence problems.
