Combine DOF sets

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, expand the DOFSets container.

  2. Hold Ctrl while selecting the DOF sets to combine.

  3. Right-click one of the selected DOF sets and choose the appropriate combine command:Union — Creates a new DOF set that is the combination of all selected DOF sets.Exclusive OR — Creates a new DOF set made up of entities that are unique among all selected DOF sets.Note: This command works differently from the command with the same name that is used for Groups. With Groups, any node that is part of both group A and group B is not included in the newly created group. However, with DOF Sets, if the common node has different DOF settings in set A than it has in set B, the common node IS included in the newly created DOF set, but with the exclusive OR DOF settings. For more information, see Examples below.Intersection — Creates a new DOF set made up of entities that are common between all selected DOF sets.

The new DOF set appears in the navigator with a name that reflects the combine command you used.

Examples

Suppose you have two DOF sets named Set_A and Set_B. In addition to other nodes in the two sets, one node is common to both sets, but with different DOF values defined. The two examples illustrate how the DOF settings are created for the common node in the combined DOF set.

Example 1

Command Set_A DOF settings Set_B DOF settings New Set DOF settings

Intersection
Exclusive OR

Example 2

How do I

Create a DOF set
