Defines a pre-load on a bolt that is modeled with CHEXA, CPENTA, or CTETRA elements. You select the nodes that form a cross section through the bolt. This option corresponds to the ETYPE=1 input format on the BOLT bulk data entry.Force or Displacement on 2D Solid Elements - Cut PlaneAvailable for Simcenter Nastran linear solutions, Simcenter Nastran nonlinear solutions (SOL 401 and SOL 402) and Simcenter 3D Multiphysics. Defines a pre-load on a bolt that is modeled with the plane stress elements CPLSTS3, CPLSTS4, CPLSTS6, or CPLSTS8. You select the nodes that form a cross section through the bolt. This option corresponds to the ETYPE=2 input format on the BOLT bulk data entry.Note: Only CHEXA, CPENTA, or CTETRA elements are supported for Simcenter Nastran linear solutions.Force, Displacement, or Strain on 2D Solid ElementsAppears when Enable SC Nastran TYPE=3 bolt preloads is set to On in FileUtilitiesEarly Access Feature dialog box.Available for Simcenter Nastran (SOL 401 and SOL 402) and Simcenter 3D Multiphysics. Defines a pre-load on a bolt that is modeled with CHEXA, CPENTA, CTETRA, or CPYRAM elements. This option corresponds to the ETYPE=3 input format on the BOLT bulk data entry.Caution: Simcenter Nastran (SOL 401) and Simcenter 3D Multiphysics include types that correspond to the ETYPE=1, ETYPE=2, and ETYPE=3 input format. In each solution, you can only use one of these input formats. In Simcenter Nastran (SOL 401 and SOL 402) and Simcenter 3D Multiphysics, pre-load application of TYPE 3 bolts may not be reliable in some cases and therefore are hidden in the user interface. It is recommended that you use TYPE 2 bolts instead. If you still need to use TYPE 3 bolts, you can enable them by doing the following:Choose FileUtilitiesFeature Toggles. In the Feature Toggles dialog box, for the Enable SC Nastran TYPE=3 bolt preloads early access feature, right-click in the State column and choose On.
Destination Folder
Load Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Model Objects
Group Reference Lets you apply the bolt pre-load to a group. For more information, see Group Reference options.
Select Object Lets you select the geometry or FE entities on which the load will be applied. ExcludedLets you remove individual entities from within the selected object.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Bolt Plane
Select Object Appears when Type is set to Force on 3D elements, Force, Displacement, or Strain on 2D Solid Elements, or Force, Displacement, or Strain on 3D Solid Elements.Lets you select a point to define the cross section location for the bolt shaft.
Direction (Nastran linear solutions)Bolt Axis (Nastran non-linear solutions and Simcenter 3D Multiphysics)
CSYS Lets you specify the coordinate system to use to define the axis of the bolt.AutoNastran determines the coordinate system and the axis direction.GlobalUses the global coordinate system to define the bolt’s axis.CartesianUses a selected local Cartesian coordinate system to define the bolt’s axis. Use the CSYS Dialog box or click one of the coordinate system commands to specify the coordinate system.See CSYS dialog box for more information. This option corresponds to the CSID field on the BOLT bulk data entry.
Direction Appears when CSYS is set to Global or Cartesian.Lets you specify the direction of the bolt’s axis relative to the selected coordinate system.Specifying a direction for the bolt axis determines how the software identifies the shear axes (shear 1 and 2) and moment axes (moment 1 and 2): If the bolt coordinate system is aligned with the X-axis, the software uses the Y-axis as the shear 1 and moment 1 axes, and the Z-axis as the shear 2 and moment 2 axes. If the bolt coordinate system is aligned with the Y-axis, the software uses the Z-axis as the shear 1 and moment 1 axes, and the X-axis as the shear 2 and moment 2 axes. If the bolt coordinate system is aligned with the Z-axis, the software uses the X-axis as the shear 1 and moment 1 axes, and the Y-axis as the shear 2 and moment 2 axes. Note: The shear forces and bending moments are evaluated on the lower part of the bolt, at the cut surface, where the lower part of the bolt is identified with respect to the direction of the bolt axis. This option corresponds to the IDIR field on the BOLT bulk data entry.
Magnitude
Type Appears when Type is set to Force or Displacement on 2D Elements - Cut Plane, Force or Displacement on 3D Elements - Cut Plane, Force, Displacement, or Strain on 2D Solid Elements, or Force, Displacement, or Strain on 3D Solid Elements.ForceDefines the pre-load as an axial force. The software computes the axial strain required to satisfy this pre-load force. DisplacementDefines the pre-load as an axial displacement. The software converts the axial displacement to an axial strain using the bolt length. The software can compute the bolt length automatically, or you can enter it in the Bolt Length box.StrainAvailable when Type is set to Force, Displacement, or Strain on 2D Solid Elements or Force, Displacement, or Strain on 3D Solid Elements.Defines the pre-load as an axial strain.
Force Specifies the magnitude of the force to apply to the bolt. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Displacement Appears when Type is set to Displacement.Specifies the length adjustment for the bolt. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.Note: For SOLs 401 and 402, the values you set for Displacement are cumulative. For example, if Bolt Pre-Load(1) is set to 0.5 mm, Bolt Pre-Load(2) is set to 0.25 mm, and Bolt Pre-Load(3) is set to 0.25 mm, and the bolt pre-loads are applied in order to three bolt pre-load subcases, the displacements are 0.5 mm, 0.75 mm, and 1.0 mm.
Bolt Length Appears when Type is set to Displacement. Not available for SOLs 401, 402, or Multiphysics.Specifies the initial length of the bolt. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Strain Appears when Type is set to Strain.Specifies the magnitude of the initial strain to apply to the bolt. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Card Name Displays the name of the solver card for the load.
