Manual Coupling dialog box

Type
Type Controls the type of manual coupling to create:Coupled DOFCreates coupled degrees-of-freedom between a single independent node and any number of dependent nodes. To apply manual coupling to models in the the Samcef Axisymmetric and Other 2D Structural environment with a 2D Solid Option, select Coupled DOF ZX or Coupled DOF XY.MPC(Nastran and ANSYS only) Creates a multi-point constraint equation (MPC).(Samcef only) Creates a multi-point constraint equation (CNLI).To apply MPC to models in both the Simcenter Nastran Axisymmetric Structural and Structural environments, select MPC ZX or MPC XY.To apply MPC to models in the the Samcef Axisymmetric and Other 2D Structural environment with a 2D Solid Option, select MPC ZX or MPC XY.Multi MPC(Nastran only): Allows you to apply constraints to Constraint Equation type elements.MPCY(MSC Nastran only): Creates an MPC with a non-zero right-hand value for the MPC equation. For more information, see MPCY bulk data entry in the MSC Nastran Quick Reference Guide for more information. CE(ANSYS only): Creates an MPC with a non-zero right-hand value for the MPC equation.*EQUATION(Abaqus only): Creates linear multi-point constraint (MPC) in the form of an equation.Beam(Abaqus only): Creates a rigid beam between two nodes. This beam constrains the displacement and rotation at the first node to the displacement and rotation at the second node, corresponding to the presence of a rigid beam between the two nodes.Link(Abaqus only): Creates a pinned, rigid link between two nodes that keeps the distance between the nodes constant. The software modifies the displacements of the first node to enforce this constraint.Note: Any rotational DOF for the two nodes are not included in this constraint.Tie(Abaqus only): Makes the global displacements and rotations as well as all other active degrees of freedom equal at two nodes. If there are different degrees of freedom active at the two nodes, the software only constrains those DOF in common. Typically, you use the TIE option when you need to fully connect corresponding nodes on two different portions of a mesh.Pin(Abaqus only): Creates a pinned joint between two nodes. With a Pin type of constraint, the software makes the global displacements of the two nodes equal.Note: Any rotational DOF for the two nodes are not included in this constraint.
Name
Name Sets the name of the coupling.
Description Sets the description of the coupling.
Destination Folder
Constraint Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition is stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. To view a hierarchical list of existing folders, click Folder Manager . To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Independent Node/Independent Object
Appears when Type is set to Coupled DOF, Beam, Link, Tie, Pin, Coupled DOF ZX, or Coupled DOF XY.
Select Object Lets you select a point, mesh point, or node to serve as the independent object in the constraint.Use the Excluded options to remove objects from your selection.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Dependent Objects
Appears when Type is set to Coupled DOF,Beam, Link, Tie, Pin, Coupled DOF ZX or Coupled DOF XY.
Select Object Lets you select one or more nodes or geometry to serve as the dependent object or objects in the constraint.Use the Excluded options to remove objects from your selection.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Group Reference Lets you apply the constraint to a group. For more information, see Group Reference options.
Direction
Displacement CSYS Sets the nodal displacement coordinate system. This is the coordinate system that defines the directions of the degrees of freedom.
Degrees of Freedom
Appears when Type is set to Coupled DOF, Coupled DOF ZX or Coupled DOF XY.
DOF1, DOF2, DOF3, DOF4, DOF5, DOF6 Controls which of the node's degrees of freedom to couple.
All Off Leaves all degrees of freedom uncoupled.
All On Couples all degrees of freedom.
Dependent Coupling Parameters
Appears when Type is set to MPC, MPC ZX, MPC XY, MPCY, CE, or *EQUATION.
Select Object Lets you select the dependent node in an MPC.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Component Number Specifies the DOF to constrain for the dependent node.
Coefficient Sets the coefficient value for the dependent node. The coefficient is a term by which the nodal DOF is multiplied.
Independent Coupling Parameters
Appears when Type is set to MPC, MPC ZX, MPC XY, MPCY, CE, or *EQUATION.
Group Reference Lets you apply the constraint to a group.Select the group from the list, or click New Group.
Select Object Lets you select the independent node(s) in an MPC.Excluded lets you remove individual entities from within your selected object.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Unique DOF Values If on, lets you enter the coefficient value of each DOF to constrain for each independent node.
Edit Per Node Click Nodes to open the Edit By Node dialog box. In this dialog box, you can enter the coefficient value for each DOF that you need to constrain, for each independent node.
Component Number Selects the DOF to constrain for the independent nodes.
Coefficient Sets the coefficient value for the independent nodes. The coefficient is a term by which the nodal DOF is multiplied.
Constant Term
Right Hand Value Appears when Type is set to CE or MPCY.Defines the non-zero right hand value for the MPC.
Nonlinear Controls (Samcef only)
Appears when Type is set to MPC, MPC ZX, or MPC XY.
DOFs expressed as Lets you choose to express the degrees of freedom in terms of Positions or in terms of Displacements.
Card Name Displays the name of the solver card this object writes to.
