Sample PCB component catalog file in a spreadsheet application
The following graphic shows a sample PCB component catalog file, component.xml, in Excel.
There are three sections of data when you edit the catalog file in the spreadsheet application.
Header
The header contains the first three rows. The first two rows tell the software which data in the catalog should be presented in the spreadsheet and which data should be brought into the model. You should not typically modify these rows.
Row 1: This is the source row as it contains all the map source entries. Map source entries indicate the fields of catalog item data that the software writes into the spreadsheet and reads from it. Catalog item data whose fields are not on this row are ignored.
Row 2: This is the target row as it contains all the map target entries. Map target entries indicate which options in the dialog box get populated by data. Blank entries are allowed on this row, as not all catalog data needs to be used by the software; some data can be informational.Example: The map source entry Maximum Case Temperature corresponds to the map target entry Tmax Case. Hence, the value for Maximum Case Temperature populates the Tmax Case option in the PCB Component dialog box.
Row 3: This is the catalog name row as it contains the catalog name that is displayed in the catalog dialog box.
Multiline data rows
The multiline data rows (1) are primarily used to reference a series of fan curve data points in a table of fan curves. These rows allow you to define a longer description across multiple lines. However, the multiline rows clutter the spreadsheet view of the catalog. Consider using short descriptions that fit directly into the item data.
- Rows 4 to 9 (1): These are the multiline rows as they contain multiline data. The first cell in each row indicates the multiline field name. It can be either DESCRIPTION or FAN CURVE, depending on the catalog XML file. To reference a multiline row in another cell, use the at sign (@) followed by the line number in the corresponding item row (3). When you add multiline data for a new item, make sure to add it at the end of this block of rows, just above the type row, to keep the correct correspondence between existing items and their rows.
Catalog data
This is the main section of the catalog that contains all the data entries. Each row corresponds to an item that can be selected in the software's dialog boxes. You typically modify and add data to the catalog data section of the spreadsheet.
Row 10: This is the type row as it indicates the field type of catalog item data: text, integer, float, or bool.
Row 11: This is the field row as it indicates the field name of the catalog item data. Family refers to group name. You can have more than one Family column. This lets you organize your item data into groups and subgroups. Component refers to the item name. The other field names correspond to the map source entries in row 1.
Rows 12 to 17 (2): These are the item rows as they contain catalog item data. Multiline data contains the at sign (@) followed by a number that indicates the row number containing the corresponding data (3). When you add a new item, to indicate the correct row with multiline data, you need to write ‘@ in the Excel cell to correctly input the at sign (@).
