Constraint Specification dialog box

Option Description
Type Controls the type of constraint to specify for laminate optimization.Select Total Mass when you want to constrain the mass of the laminate.Select Buckling Factor when you want to constrain the first buckling eigenvalue of a laminate under arbitrary loading condition. If you select this type you must also specify at least one load case.Select Ply Failure Index when you want to constrain the smallest ply failure index, for all plies, for a laminate under arbitrary loading condition. If you select this type you must also specify at least one load case.Select Natural Frequency when you want to constrain the first out-of-plane eigenvalue of the laminate.Select Ply Contiguity when you want to limit the number of consecutive plies having the same angle.Select X Young's Modulus when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate membrane Young's modulus in the X direction. Select Y Young's Modulus when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate membrane Young's modulus in the Y direction.Select XY Shear Modulus when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate membrane shear modulus in the XY direction.Select XY Poisson's Ratio when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate membrane Poisson's ratio in the XY direction.Select X Thermal Expansion Coef. when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate thermal expansion coefficient in the X direction.Select Y Thermal Expansion Coef. when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate thermal expansion coefficient in the Y direction.Select XY Thermal Expansion Coef. when you want to constrain the equivalent laminate thermal expansion coefficient in the XY direction.
Rule Controls the rule for the selected constraint.Select Less or Equal to Limit if you want the optimization process to constrain the selected constraint up to the specified value.Select Greater or Equal to Limit if you want the optimization process to constrain the selected constraint to or above the specified value.
Limit Lets you enter the limit for the selected constraint.
Relaxation Parameter Lets you enter the value for the relaxation parameter which allows a small violation of the constraint.
