Cyclic symmetric post-processing options

Post-processing results from a cyclic symmetry analysis

When you load results from a Cyclic Modes step into the Post Processing Navigator, the software organizes the results according to their harmonic index value.

Cyclic symmetric display options

Use the Cyclic Symmetric Display Options dialog box to set up the 3D display of cyclic symmetric results.

  • The results for a specific sector, multiple sectors, or all sectors.

  • The results for a particular sector displayed at the primary sector location.

  • The cyclic normal modes result from the sector containing the maximum, minimum, absolute maximum, or absolute minimum result at the primary sector location.

  • An enveloped value of cyclic normal modes result at the primary sector location.

         Note:

For example, if the primary segment is 45°, eight segments exist around the circumference. The software determines the enveloped result for a node using the eight segment values for that node. Therefore, the value displayed for node 1 could be from segment 5, but the value displayed for node 2 could be from the primary segment (segment 1). The enveloped results for all nodes are then displayed at the primary sector location.

Animate mode shapes and results on the 3D display

For cyclic symmetric harmonic results with all sectors displayed, use the Animate command to perform forward and backward wave animations. In a wave animation, the number of frames is fixed to the number of sectors. In addition, you can specify the harmonic index and mode numbers.

The following video shows a wave animation that starts forward and then transitions backward.

Displaying cyclic worst principal stress and strain results

For cyclic worst principal stress and strain results (scalar and angle), the results have a single scalar component and are evaluated for the primary sector only. Therefore, if you display other sectors in the post view, the software displays the values for the primary sector without any transformations. In addition, the post-processor only shows the absolute value of stress and strain.

For more information, see Cyclic worst principal stress and strain results.
