Spline options
Aeroelastic analysis uses splines to interpolate between the structural and aerodynamic models. Splines can interpolate deformations, forces, or deformations and forces.
To create a spline, use the Aero Spline command. In the Aero Spline dialog box, you can select from the following spline types:
Select Surface - on Aero Panel to model a low aspect ratio wing where the length of the wing is of the same order as its chord length. For this type of spline, you define the region to interpolate by selecting aero elements at opposing corners of the region. The spline interpolates linear deflections and forces.
Select Linear - on Aero Panel to model a high aspect ratio wing where the length of the wing is much greater than its chord length. For this type of spline, you define the axis of the spline to coincide with the Y-axis of a coordinate system, and you specify the region to interpolate by selecting aero elements at either end of the region. The spline interpolates linear and rotational deflections that result from shear forces, bending moments, and torsion.
Select Linear - on Aero Body to model long slender bodies where twisting deformation is negligible. For this type of spline, the spline axis is along the body. You specify the region to interpolate by selecting aero elements at opposing ends of the region. The spline interpolates linear and rotational deflections that result from shear forces and bending moments.
For additional information on splines in aeroelastic analysis, see the Simcenter Nastran Aeroelastic Analysis User's Guide in the Interpolation from Structural to Aerodynamic Models section of the Aeroelastic Modeling chapter.
