Families of results in structural and thermal output requests (Simcenter Samcef)
In the Simcenter Samcef Structural and Thermal analyses, when you select a result to output, you select a set of families of Simcenter Samcef code IDs.
For instance, in a Linear Static analysis, the Stress Tensor result is defined in the Simcenter Samcef documentation as:
| Physical Quantity | Volumes | Shells (med/up/low) | Beams | Rods |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stress Tensor | x411 | x431, x435, x436 | - | - |
By default, the Stress Tensor result outputs the following Simcenter Samcef codes:
Results codes 1411 and 3411 on solid elements. The 3411 and 1411 codes are the Element and the Element-nodal versions of the same result on solids: the x411 stress tensor family.
Results codes 1431, 3431 codes on midsurface of shells, 1435, 3435 codes on upper skin of shells, and 1436, 3436 codes on lower skin on shells. For instance, the 3435 and 1435 codes are the Element and the Element-nodal versions of the same result on upper skins of shells: the x435 stress tensor family.
By default, all the codes of all the families of a given result are output as .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP
For instance, for our linear Stress Tensor example, a default .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 1411 3411 1431 3431 1435 3435 1436 3436 entry is output in the Simcenter Samcef input file.
With the Location and the Type lists of the Output Requests modeling objects, you can reduce the list of codes to output.
Type of results
With the Type (1), you can select (2) to output the Elemental, the Element Nodal, or both versions of a same result:
Element
Only select the element version of the result.
Element Nodal
Only select the element-nodal version of the result.
All
Select both versions
Location of results (shells)
With the Location list (1), you can choose (2) between the Midplane, the Lower Skin, the Upper Skin, or All the positions in shells elements:
Lower Skin
Only select the lower skin version of the result.
Upper Skin
Only select the upper skin version of the result.
Midplane
Only select the midplane version of the result.
All
Select all the positions in the shell.
Critical Values for composite criteria
With the Critical Values (1), you can choose to add critical data output for the given result. You can add the result for theCritical Ply, you can add the Critical Ply Id number result, you can add them All, or you can exclude all these critical outputs (None).
Target elements (Entity)
Depending on the selected result, you can use the Entity list to output the result for the whole Structure or for a Group of elements/nodes.
Examples
The following examples shows how the combination of the list options described above can reduce the list of output results.
Example 1: Cauchy Stress Tensor result of a Nonlinear analysis
In the Simcenter Samcef documentation, the Cauchy Stress Tensor is defined as:
| Physical Quantity | Volumes | Shells (med/up/low) | Beams | Rods |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cauchy Stress Tensor | x442 | x448 / x478 / x408 | - | x442 |
We have the following families:
For volumes and rods: the x442 family.
For shells: the x448, x478, and x408 families.
Examples combinations of results options:
| Type list | Location list | Selected Entity | Output list of codes | Simcenter Samcef computed results | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All | All | Structure | .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 1442 3442 1448 3448 1478 3478 1408 3408 | Volumes and rods: 1442, 3442Shells: 1448, 3448 for midplane, 1478, 3478 for upper skins and 1408, 3408 for lower skinsBeams:- | All the Element and Element-nodal types are output. All the locations in shells are selected. The Cauchy Stress Tensor result does not exist for beams. From the output list, Simcenter Samcef attaches the right results codes to the right types of elements. |
| All | Lower Skin | Structure | .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 1442 3442 1408 3408 | Volumes and rods: 1442, 3442Shells: 1408, 3408Beams:- | The shells list of results is reduced to the Lower Skin counterpart. |
| Element | All | Structure | .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 3442 3448 3478 3408 | Volumes and rods: 3442Shells: 3448 for midplane, 3478 for upper skins and, 3408 for lower skinsBeams:- | Only the Element version of the results are output. |
| Element | All | A group of shells elements | .SAI ARCHIVE GROUP - STYP 3442 3448 3478 3408 | Volumes and rods:-Shells: 3448 for midplane, 3478 for upper skins and, 3408 for lower skinsBeams:- | Simcenter Samcef only outputs shell results. |
Example 2: Tsai-Hill 1 Criteria result of a Nonlinear analysis
In the Simcenter Samcef documentation, the Tsai-Hill 1 Criteria is defined as:
| Physical Quantity | Volumes | Shells (med/up/low) | Beams | Rods |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tsai-Hill 1 Criteria | x621 | x621 / 2x621 / 1x621 | - | - |
For this result, if we select the whole model (Structure) from the Entity list, we can have combinations like:
| Type list | Location list | Critical Values list | Output list of codes | Simcenter Samcef computed results | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Element | All | None | .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 3621 23621 13621 | Volumes: 3621Shells: 3621 for midplane, 23621 for upper skins and, 13621 for lower skins | Only the element-based criteria results are output. |
| Element | All | All | .SAI ARCHIVE STRUCTURE STYP 3621 23621 13621 7621 8621 | Same list as above plus:7621 8621 | Critical ply values and the critical ply ID are added to the output list. The critical ply result (7621) is not separately output for the lower, upper, or midplane of the shells. Only the worst location is output. |
