Custom post view templates

Typically, an administrator or an analyst with administrative duties and experience will use custom post view templates to create a library of templates available to all users. Custom templates can save time and ensure consistent, high-quality presentations of analysis results.

This software provides a highly flexible solution for creating and managing custom post view template libraries.

  • Template files can be stored locally for each user, or on a shared network drive.

  • Templates can be loaded automatically by specifying the UGII_CAE_POST_TEMPLATE_USER_DIR environment variable in the user’s environment, or users can load individual templates as needed by right-clicking the Templates node in Post Processing Navigator and choosing Load.

  • Template files are standard XML files. You can edit template files using any schema-validating XML editor, using the PostTemplates.xsd file provided.

Partial templates

When you save a user template in the Post Processing Navigator, the new template contains all the settings defined for the current master post view. If you apply the unedited template to a subsequent post view, all current post view settings — including selected results components, custom color bar settings, group or mesh displays, and so on — are overwritten by the template.

The most typical application of template customization is to create a partial template. A partial template applies a number of specific settings in a single operation, without overwriting the settings you want to keep.

For example, you could create a template that turns off element edges and displays banded contours on translucent faces, but does not overwrite the selected results or deformation settings.

To create a partial template, first define a post view that contains the settings you want to apply, then:

  1. In the Post Processing Navigator, right-click the template and choose Edit.

  2. In the configured editor of your choice, delete all elements except for those settings you want to apply.

  3. After saving your changes, in the Post Processing Navigator, right-click the Templates node and choose Reload.
