Override the length of bolt shanks
You can override the shank length of a universal bolt connection to quickly simulate a shorter connection length without needing to modify the underlying part geometry.
(1) Distance between flanges, (2) Default connection length, (3) Overridden connection length after realizing (meshing) connection
You can use the following options on the Physicals page of the universal Bolt Connection dialog box to define the Shank Length Override:
To set the length manually, choose User Defined.
To set the length as a percentage of the overall connection length for each location, choose % of Length.
If you used Set of Curves to define the connection's Axis Setup, to set the length as a percentage of the length of the centerline that defines each location, choose % of Curve.
When you set Shank Length Override, the bolt's center of gravity (CG) is used to define the symmetry of the shank length. After overriding the length of the connection, you can select the Use Master Point of Location as Shank Center check box to set the Master Point as the symmetry point for the overridden shank length. You can use this to offset the shank within the selected flanges to provide further control over the location of the connection elements.
For more information about Master Point, see Bolt Connection dialog box (universal connections).
