Loading CAE data from the current folder

If all your CAE model component files and associated CAD parts are stored in a single folder, you can choose to have the software search on the current folder when you load your CAD data. All the files related to an analysis must reside in the same folder.

You must use the From Folder load option. This option appears in the Part Versions group of the FileOptionsAssembly Load Options dialog box.

When the Part Versions Load option is set to From Folder, the software searches only the current folder for CAE model component files and associated CAD parts. This means that all files related to an analysis must reside in the same folder.

There are advantages and disadvantages to storing all the required data in a single folder.

Advantages

  • Your part and component loading is reliable.

  • You can share models easily.

Disadvantages

  • You cannot easily organize models that contain multiple Simulation files or FEM files, or models that are based on large assembly parts.

  • If the master part file is not stored in the same folder as the CAE model, you must manually load the master part file before you can update your model. To load the master part file, choose FileOpen.

Recommendations

For reasonably small models and independent analyses, the From Folder option provides a convenient and reliable method for loading, managing, and sharing CAE model data. However, to support team-based analysis, concurrent engineering, component reuse, large assemblies, what-if studies, and so on, you may want to investigate defining search folders or using a PLM product such as Teamcenter for Simulation.
