Joint dialog box (Thermal/SST/ESC/Multiphysics)

Option Description
Name Specify the name and a Label for the Joint modeling object. Enter a meaningful name and enter a unique numeric identifier for the label.Description opens an in which you can type a description for movement.
Magnitude
Type Specifies the nature of movement as either Rotational or Translational.
Rotation Rate Type Appears when Type is set to Rotational.Lets you define or create a table of angle versus time.
Rotation Rate Appears when Rotation Rate Type is set to Expression.Sets a constant rotation rate. Enter a value and specify the turns/time units.
Translation Rate Type Appears when Type is set to Translational.Lets you define or create a table of position versus time.
Translation Speed Appears when Translational Rate Type is set to Expression.Sets a constant displacement rate. Enter a value and specify the displacement/time units.
Orientation
Rotation Axis Specifies the axis of rotation of the joint modeling object. Global Cyclic AnalysisAppears if you defined the cyclic symmetry cylindrical coordinate system in the FEM. Rotates the joint around the Z-axis of the cyclic symmetry cylindrical coordinate system. User-DefinedLets you specify the axis of rotation. Use the Specify Vector options to specify the direction of revolution, and use the Specify Point options to specify the location of the axis.
Parent Joint
Select Joint Lets you specify the parent joint that you use to model coupled or sequential movements. You can either select a previously defined Joint modeling object from the Parent Joint list or create a parent joint using Create Modeling Object .
These options are available when the magnitude is defined as Field.
Select Existing Field from List Lets you select an existing field.
Formula Constructor Lets you use a formula to construct a field. For more information, see Define a boundary condition using a formula field.
Table Constructor Lets you use a table to construct a field. For more information, see Define a boundary condition using a table field and Define a material property using a table field.
Link Constructor Lets you reference an existing field. You can override the field's spatial map to use the field in another location. For more information, see Linked Field dialog box.
Plot(XY) Plots the field as an XY graph. For more information, see: Plot functions, Graph overview, and Edit display properties of graph objects.
Overlay(XY) Available when a plot is already displayed. Overlays a plot on an existing plot. You can overlay up to 50 plots. For more information, see Overlay plots.
