Formula fields
Formula fields let you use expressions to define the relationship between the independent and dependent domains.
To create a formula field, you define the independent and dependent domains, and then enter an expression that relates them.
For information on expressions, see Expressions.
You can use formula fields to define:
Boundary conditionsFor example, you can use formula fields to define the magnitude and, if applicable, the distribution of the boundary condition.
Material propertiesFor example, you can use formula fields to define how a material property varies with respect to temperature or temperature and strain.
Material thicknessFor example, you can use formula fields to define how the thickness of sheet bodies or shell meshes vary spatially.
The following figure depicts how a formula field can be used to define the distribution of a force over a surface.
