Surface Smoothing dialog box (Abaqus)

The Surface Smoothing dialog box corresponds to the Abaqus SURFACE SMOOTHING parameter to the *CONTACT PAIR keyword. For more information, see *CONTACT PAIR in the Abaqus Keywords Reference Guide.

Modeling Object
Name Sets the name of the modeling object.
Label Sets a unique integer for the modeling object. This label also appears in the Modeling Objects Manager dialog box, and you can filter the objects listed in that dialog box by their label.
Properties
Smoothing Method Specifies a smoothing method to improve contact stress accuracy.**Circumferential(2D)**Available for Axisymmetric analyses.Applies surface smoothing on regions of two-dimensional surfaces that correspond, or nearly correspond, to a circular arc. Appropriate for surfaces approximating a portion of a circle in two dimensions.CircumferentialAvailable for Structural and Coupled Thermal-Structural analyses.Applies circumferential smoothing to surface regions with an axis of symmetry passing through two points. Appropriate for surfaces approximating a portion of a surface of revolution in three dimensions.SphericalAvailable for Structural and Coupled Thermal-Structural analyses.Applies spherical smoothing to surface regions with a spherical center at a specified point. Appropriate for surfaces approximating a portion of a sphere in three dimensions.ToroidalAvailable for Structural and Coupled Thermal-Structural analyses.Applies toroidal smoothing to surface regions with an axis of symmetry passing through the two points with the center of the revolved circular arc at a distance R from the axis of symmetry.Appropriate for surfaces approximating a portion of a torus in three dimensions (that is, a circular arc revolved about an axis).
Approximate Center of the Circular Arc Appears when Smoothing Method is set to Circumferential(2D).Lets you specify the point at the center of the surface though which to apply circumferential smoothing. You can click Point Dialog to open the Point dialog box, or select the point creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window.
Point A on the Approximate Axis of Revolution / Point B on the Approximate Axis of Revolution Appears when Smoothing Method is set to Circumferential or Toroidal.Lets you specify the two points that define the axis of symmetry through which to apply the circumferential or toroidal smoothing. You can click Point Dialog to open the Point dialog box, or select the point creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window.
Approximate Spherical Center Appears when Smoothing Method is set to Spherical.Lets you specify the point at the center of the surface though which to apply circumferential smoothing. You can click Point Dialog to open the Point dialog box, or select the point creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window.
Distance R from the Axis of Symmetry Appears when Smoothing Method is set to Toroidal.Sets the center of the revolved circular arc at a distance R from the axis of symmetry through which to apply toroidal smoothing.
