Graph dialog box
| Type | |
|---|---|
| Type | Specifies the type of graph to create. On PathGraphs results across a series of nodes or elements.Across IterationsAppears when the loaded results include multiple modes, time steps, or iterations.Graphs results at one or more nodes across multiple modes, time steps, or iterations.Orbit PlotAppears when the loaded results are in complex format and displacement results are displayed.Plots displacements in two axes in the plane of rotation. Typically this is used when examining results from a rotor dynamics analysis. |
| Graph Title | |
| Graph Title | Sets the title for the graph. This title appears under the Graphs node in the Post Processing Navigator. |
| X Axis (On Path graph type) | |
| Appears when the type is set to On Path. | |
| Define By | Specifies the X-axis for the graph on a path.IDsPlots values against the node or element IDs, presented in numerical order.Path LengthPlots values against the node locations along the length of the path in the current model units.Length Along DirectionPlots values against the node locations along length of a specified direction vector.Click Select Vector to use the Vector dialog box to specify a direction vector.Coordinate Value of CSYS AxisPlots values against the X-, Y-, or Z-coordinates of points along the path in the global coordinate system.Click Select CSYS to specify a coordinate system. Select an axis from the Select CSYS Axis list. |
| X Axis (Across Iterations graph type) | |
| Appears when the type is set to Across Iterations.Specifies a range of load cases, iterations, modes, time steps, frequencies, and so on to graph across. | |
| Display | Specifies the units displayed along the X-axis.The unit you select filters the available results domains for the start and end load case or iteration. For example, if you specify Frequency for the display units, only load cases or iterations in the frequency domain are available. |
| Start Load Case/Start Iteration | Specifies the first load case and/or iteration in the range. |
| End Load Case/End Iteration | Specifies the last load case and/or iteration in the range. |
| Step | Specifies the step size for the range. A step size of 1 includes each iteration between the start and end iteration in the graph. A step size of 2 includes every other iteration, a step size of 3 includes every third iteration, and so on. |
| Y Axis | |
| Available when the type is set to On Path. | |
| Define By Query Curve | Lets you select from a list of predefined query curves or create a new one. |
| Sequential Selection | Appears when the Define By Query Curve check box is cleared.Allows you to select nodes or elements in a particular sequence. The software creates the path in this same sequence. |
| Include Intersections | Appears when the Sequential Selection check box is selected.Generates a data point where the specified path intersects an element edge. Select the Include Intersections check box when you want to create a smooth graph of the changes in data values between points. When cleared, the software generates data points only at nodes or points specified in the path. Clear the Include Intersections check box when you want to compare discrete values at specified points. |
| Query Curve | |
| Appears when type is set to On Path and the Define By Query Curve check box is selected. The selections from both Curve Usage and Resultant Curve Location determine the array of locations along the query curve used to create the Y-axis. | |
| Curve Name | Specifies a predefined query curve. Click New to create a new query curve. |
| Reverse Direction | Reverses the direction of the query curve. |
| Curve Usage | Specifies how to extract the points along the query curve to be used.Use VerticesUse the vertices of the query curve as input.Use Intersection LocationUse both the vertices of the curve and the points of intersection with element edges and faces.Project to Element FacesProject the query curve on the nearest element faces along the selected Projection Direction vector. The line segments of the query curve form a path on element faces. For more information about the options, see Applying a query curve. |
| Resultant Curve Location | Appears when Curve Usage is set to Use Vertices or Use Intersection Location.Specifies the desired result location for the points used. Use As IsUse the points in the query curve as is. Snap to Closest NodeSnap to the closest node for each of the points in the query curve. The node IDs replace the coordinates of the actual points. Use Intersected ElementsUse the element IDs on which each of the points lie instead of the actual points. |
| Distance to Mesh Tolerance | Sets the tolerance for finding the nearest point or projected vertex on the mesh. The box on the right sets the limit for the tolerance. When Curve Usage is set to Use Vertices or Use Intersection Location, sets the tolerance for finding the nearest point on a mesh for each vertex of the query curve. This is helpful when the segment of the query curve is not exactly on the mesh but close to it. The following figure shows the resulting query curve when the distance to mesh tolerance is set to 3.0. When Curve Usage is set to Project to Element Faces, sets the tolerance for finding the nearest point on a mesh for each projected vertex of the query curve. This is helpful when the vertex does not project on the mesh but is slightly outside it. |
| Duplicate Location Tolerance | Appears when Curve Usage is set to Use Vertices or Project to Element Faces and Resultant Curve Location is set to Use As Is.Specifies the tolerance for eliminating locations that are very close. The box on the right sets the limit for the tolerance. If the locations of data points are close, increase the tolerance to merge the locations into one to work with a smaller number of data points. |
| Node Search Tolerance | Appears when Curve Usage is set to Use Vertices or Project to Element Faces and Resultant Curve Location is set to Snap to Closest Node.Specifies the tolerance for searching for a node that is closest to a point on the resultant curve. The box on the right sets the limit for the tolerance. |
| Select Vector | Appears when Curve Usage is set to Project to Element Faces.Click Select Vector to use the Vector dialog box to specify the direction along which to project the query curve on the nearest element faces. For more information, see the Vector dialog box (post-processing). |
| Preview | Turns on the display of the entities that make up the query curve. |

When working with elemental results, Node appears. When working with element-nodal results, both Node and Element appear. If the results are combined at a node or element using the Edit Post View command, the software plots a single graph. If the results are not combined, the software plots a series of multiple plots. Each series is labeled according to contributing element, node, or element-nodal. Note: Use the Single option to select results of the same type as those displayed in the graphics window.Polygon FaceAppears for results with an associated solution and CAD geometry.
