Creating a separate mesh for each face or polygon body

You can use the Create Separate Meshes list in the 2D Mesh dialog box to control whether the software creates a single mesh for all selected geometry or whether the software creates a separate mesh for each selected face or polygon body.

  • Select Off - Single Mesh to create a single mesh for all selected faces or polygon bodies.

  • Select On - For Each Face to create a separate mesh for each selected face.

  • Select On - For Each Body to create a separate mesh for each selected polygon body.Because materials are often assigned to bodies in a CAD model, the On - For Each Body option helps ensure that each mesh inherits the correct material.

Select the On - For Each Face or On - For Each Body options to:

  • Create separate meshes with different properties, such as materials, for each selected face or polygon body.

  • Ensure continuity and smooth transitions across multiple, individual meshes in a single part.

  • Manage multiple, individual meshes through a single mesh definition in the Simulation Navigator.

Note:

If you select the On - For Each Face or On - For Each Body options when you create a mesh, you cannot use those meshes to create a 2D dependent mesh.

Managing separate meshes in the Simulation Navigator

When you select the On - For Each Face or On - For Each Body options, the software creates a parent mesh recipe that contains separate element collectors for the mesh on each individual face. The software uses the name that you specify in the Mesh Name field in the 2D Mesh dialog box as the base name for the element collectors and then increments each name by a value of 1.

Editing meshes created with the Create Mesh for Each Face option selected

If you edit a mesh that you create with the On - For Each Face or On - For Each Body options, the software preserves that setting. If you select the Off - Single Mesh from the Create Separate Meshes during the edit process and click OK or Apply, the software deletes all element collectors other than the element collector for the selected mesh and removes them from the parent mesh recipe.
