Defining properties and parameters for CFAST/CWELD connections
While you use CFAST/CWELD Connection command to define the connection between two 2D meshes, you must also specify the physical properties of that connection and the parameters that control how Nastran creates the connection.
In Simcenter Nastran, you use the PFAST and PWELD bulk data entries to define the properties, such as the diameter of the connection, for CFAST and CWELD connections. In Pre/Post, you specify the properties for CFAST and CWELD connections in the PFAST and PWELD physical property table dialog boxes.
In Simcenter Nastran, you use the SWLDPRM bulk data entry to define the parameters that control how Nastran creates CFAST and CWELD connections. In Pre/Post you specify these parameters in the CFAST/CWELD Connection Parameters dialog box.
Note:
Because the diameter of the CWELD or CFAST connection affects the locations at which you can define those connections, you should always define the diameter in the PFAST or PWELD dialog box before you create the connection itself.
Defining the physical properties of a CFAST or CWELD connection
For CFAST connections, you can use the options in the PFAST physical property table dialog box to control, for example:
The diameter of the fastener. You must specify a value greater than 0 for the diameter.
The material assigned to the fastener.
The X, Y, and Z translational and rotational stiffness values for the fastener.
The material coordinate system in which the translational and rotational stiffness values are applied.
For more information on these properties, see PFAST in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide.
For CWELD connections, you can use the options in the PWELD physical property table dialog box to control, for example:
The diameter of the weld. You must specify a value greater than 0 for the diameter.
The material assigned to the weld.
The largest and smallest ratio of the length of the weld to its diameter.
For more information on these properties, see PWELD in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide.
Defining the parameters that control CFAST or CWELD creation
You can use the options in the CFAST/CWELD Connection Parameters dialog box to adjust the tolerances and parameters that Nastran uses when creating the CFAST or CWELD elements during the solution.
For example, you can control:
Tolerance values that the software uses to determine the placement of the CWELD or CFAST element.
Where the software calculates the displacements for CWELD or CFAST elements.
Whether the software prints diagnostic information about CFAST or CWELD creation failures to the F06 file.
For more information, see SWLDPRM in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide.
