Plot response functions

When you generate a response function, the function is plotted as an XY graph in the graphics window automatically (the XY Graphing output setting is selected by default on the Evaluate Nodal Function Response and Evaluate Elemental Function Response dialog boxes). If you also select the Store to AFU output setting, the response functions are saved to an AFU file (the storage file for table functions) and appear in a Response Functions node under the Event node in the Simulation Navigator. They also appear on the XY Function Navigator.

Note:

For more information about AFU files, see Manage AFU Files in the Functions and Graphing help.

You can plot individual functions or plot them all in the same graph. Right-click one or more functions (use Ctrl-Select to select multiple functions) and choose Plot.

You can then use the Functions and Graphing editing and display options to tailor the display of your response functions (see the Functions and Graphing help).

Function names

The name of a function contains information about the contents of the function. For more information, see Modal response functions, Nodal response functions, and Elemental response functions.

Plot input function with response function

To visually compare your input function to the calculated response, you can plot the input function along with the response function.

  1. After performing a function response evaluation, open the XY Function Navigator.

  2. Expand the AFU file node that contains your input functions.

  3. Select the input function to plot.

  4. Expand the AFU file node that contains the generated response function (the file name contains the simulation name and event name).

  5. Hold Ctrl and select the response function to plot. Both the input function and the response function should now be selected.

  6. Right-click the selected functions and choose Plot.

The functions are plotted on the same graph.
