Radiation types
The Type group in the Radiation dialog box lets you control how the physical enclosures within which radiation is calculated are defined.
With the All Radiation type, the software automatically detects appropriate physical enclosures.
With the Enclosure Radiation type, you specify the physical enclosures.
All Radiation type
With the All Radiation type, the software automatically detects physical enclosures made up of supported:
2D element sides (top or bottom)
3D element free faces
1D elements
0D elements
If you select the Include Radiative Environment option in the Radiation dialog box, and if at least one element in any detected enclosure has a view to the environment, the radiative environment is also included in that enclosure.
If top and bottom side Thermo-Optical Properties for the supported elements are correctly defined, the solver calculates view factors for each enclosure separately. No view factors are calculated for unsupported elements.
Enclosure Radiation type
The Enclosure Radiation type lets you define a set of elements as an enclosure even if they are not a perfect physical enclosure. View factors and shadowing checks are limited to elements included in the enclosure, reducing the view factor calculation load. If you want to model radiative exchange between any part of the enclosure and the environment, select the Include Radiative Environment option.
For an Enclosure Radiation type, you must specify an enclosure by selecting a set surfaces or elements that can exchange radiative energy. See Understanding enclosures for more information. You can define radiation from the top side and/or the bottom side.
