Define external CFD solvers

Make sure that the Use Custom Plugin check box in the Customer Defaults dialog box is selected and that the complete path to the following plugin is specified: [software_installation]\nxcae_extras\tmg\mp\application\mpcfdcoupl.dll

Warning:

The external CFD solvers must have the appropriate CFD solver coupling API implemented. This implementation is very time-consuming and requires considerable resources.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the Solution node and choose Edit. The Solution dialog box opens.

  2. On the General page, in the External Solver Options group, select Include External Solver .

  3. Click Create External Solvers .

  4. In the Modeling Object Manager dialog box, click Create.

  5. In the External Solver dialog box, in the Name box, enter a meaningful name, for example Fluid enclosure 1, that you will use in the boundary conditions to specify the exchange of CFD data between the two models.

  6. On the Settings tab, select 3D if the CFD model representing the fluid domain is solved in 3D.

  7. In the Executable Location box, enter the path to the executable file for the external CFD solver.

  8. In the Additional Command Keywords box, enter necessary command keywords to run the external CFD solver.

  9. In the Input File Location box, enter the path to the input file that you want the external CFD solver to use. This is the file that describes the fluid domain for your problem.

  10. If necessary modify settings on the Coupling External Solver Convergence Control tab and align the CFD model with the Pre/Post model using the options on the Model Alignment tab.

  11. Click OK.

  12. In the Modeling Objects Manager dialog box, from the selection list, select the created modeling object and click Add .

  13. Repeat steps 4 to 12 to specify additional external CFD solvers.

  14. Use the Move Up and Move Down commands to reorder the modeling objects. The order of the modeling objects dictates the order of execution of the external CFD solvers.

  15. Click Close.

  16. If necessary, modify the value in the Thermal - External Solver Iteration Limit box and select the Set Coupling Thermal Convergence Control check box to modify the convergence control options.
