CAE model files
Video: CAE model files
In Pre/Post, a CAE model is an assembly of files that contain all the data required to perform an analysis. The simplest CAE model consists of two files:
The Simulation file, which is the file that contains boundary conditions and solver-specific data.
The FEM file, which is a file that contains mesh data and physical and material properties. Consistent with the master model concept, the FEM file is a component of the Simulation file.
A CAE model is associated to the model geometry contained in the CAD part (.prt) file. You can associate your model to a part file, or you can create an idealized part file to manage analysis-specific geometry modifications that are independent of live CAD data.
Boundary conditions (1), component FEM file (2), Simulation file (3)
Because analysis data is divided among multiple files, you can more easily and effectively manage system resources, support team-based analysis and concurrent engineering, and reuse and repurpose CAD geometry and finite-element data for multiple analyses.
Assembly FEM files
An assembly FEM file is an optional file type you can use to create CAE models that consist of multiple FEM files. An assembly FEM file serves as the master model for a Simulation file. It contains occurrence and position data for component FEM files, as well as connection elements and property overrides. For more information about working with assembly FEM files, see Assembly FEMs.
