Annotating post views

You can create, edit, and manage persistent annotations for post-processing displays. You can create annotations that are:

  • Attached to specified nodes or elements in the model.

  • Attached to nodes or elements that meet a specified results criteria.

  • Unattached annotations that apply to the entire model.

Note:

You can also create annotations when graphing results across multiple iterations. For more information, see Graphing results across multiple iterations.

Annotations can contain any text you specify, and can optionally include entity IDs and/or the results value of the attached node or element. For single-node selection recipes, the entity ID includes the selection recipe name. For Simcenter 3D Multiphysics cyclic symmetric results, the annotations can include the sector ID. For Simcenter 3D Multiphysics Fourier axisymmetric results, the annotations can include the sector ID and the theta value.

Tip:

Use the MenuPreferencesPost ProcessingAnnotations command to set the numeric format of the results values.

You can select up to 50 entities per annotation. Entities can be either nodes or elements, depending on the results type.

Note:

Annotations defined on nodes are visible only when nodal or element-nodal results are displayed. Likewise, annotations defined on elements are visible only when elemental results are displayed. For example, if you create an annotation on nodes when displaying displacement (nodal) results, and change the displayed result to Stress – Elemental, the annotations are no longer visible. If you subsequently display Rotation – Nodal results, the annotations are displayed again with the values updated to show rotations at nodes. For Simcenter 3D Multiphysics cyclic symmetric results, the annotations are only visible when the sector to which they belong is displayed.

Criterion-based annotations

You can define an annotation that specifies either the minimum or maximum results values from the entire model or from selected nodes or elements. You can choose the number of nodes or elements with the specified results criteria to display. For example, you can display annotations at the four nodes with the highest values. The number of results criteria to display must be less than or equal to the number of nodes or elements selected.

When you change the specified results in the post view, you can use the Update Min/Max Entities on Result Change option to update the annotation so it reflects the new node or element locations and results criteria.

The following examples show an annotation created using the Max Result Values option where the number of nodes with the highest values to display is set to four.

The first example shows the maximum displacement at four nodes for Load Case 1.

The result type then changes to Stress – Element-nodal. The annotation updates to show nodes on elements and stress results.

You can also change the active load case. Here are displacements and stresses on Load Case 2.

Quickly display minimum or maximum results at nodes or elements

When you create a new post view, the software automatically creates two annotations, Minimum and Maximum. To display these default annotations:

  • In the Post Processing Navigator, expand the Contour PlotsPost ViewAnnotations node, and then select the Minimum or Maximum visibility check box. Post view Annotations Minimum Maximum

Managing annotations

Annotations are listed in the Post Processing Navigator, under the Contour PlotsPost View node. You can hide and show, rename, edit, and delete annotations. Right-click an annotation to access commands to hide, edit, and delete it.

Moving and arranging annotations

You can drag annotations to different locations for better viewing.
