Appending an entire solver input file to a FEM or Simulation file
For all solvers supported in Pre/Post, you can import a solver input data file into an existing FEM or Simulation file and append the solver data to the existing data. The solver input data file that you import must be complete, valid, and run-ready.
Note:
To import a partial, or incomplete input file, select the Append Merge option from the Import Behavior list in the Solver Deck Append dialog box. For more information, see Appending data from a solver input file to a FEM or Simulation file.
When you import a universal (.unv) file, units will be converted to the units of the target FEM or Simulation file.
The Append command is not supported for assembly FEMs.
Imported entities
When you use the Append command to append a complete solver input file to an existing FEM or Simulation file, Pre/Post imports and appends all the entities that are appropriate for the type of file you have active. For example:
If you have a FEM file active, Pre/Post imports and appends all nodes, elements, and physical properties.
If you have a Simulation file active, Pre/Post imports and appends loads and constraints.
Depending on whether you use the Append command from a FEM file or a Simulation file, Pre/Post imports and appends:
Nodes
Elements
Coordinate systems
Physical properties
All other entities, including materials, loads, constraints, regions, degree of freedom sets, solver-specific simulation objects, solver-specific modeling objects, and groups.
Specifying offsets to avoid ID conflicts
To avoid conflicts between the IDs of imported data and existing data, you specify numerical offsets to control how the ID for each type of imported entity is generated. The software generates the default offset for each type of entity by using the next valid ID (the highest ID + 1).
