Selecting elements to create CFAST and CWELD connections (Nastran)
If you select Patch by Element from the Patch Selection list, you can select individual elements to define the 2D element patches to connect with CFAST or CWELD connections. This option corresponds to the ELEM and ELPAT fields on the CFAST and CWELD bulk data entries, respectively. You can select elements that belong to the same mesh collector or to different mesh collectors.
Select Point Projection (GS) to define a location and have the software project that location along a normal onto the elements that comprise side A and side B of the connection. When you click OK or Apply, the software creates a 0D CFAST or CWELD element to represent the connection. You can use options in the Select By list to control how you specify the locations at which to define the connection. For example, you can select points, nodes, or import a CSV file that contains the X, Y, Z locations of the points.
Select Target 1 (GA)/Target 2 (GB) to explicitly select the end points on side A and side B for the connection. If you select or create a point, the software creates a new node at that location. The software projects this location along a normal to the elements that define side A and side B of the connection.
