Post-processing > Displaying results in post views
Post views
A post view represents results displayed on the model in the graphics window. By default, a post view displays the results using a contour plot display, and it includes the result type and data component, cutting plane settings, deformation, and so on. You can change the color display to be based on mesh, property, or material values.
You can create multiple post views and overlay them or display them in multiple viewports. You can save post view settings as templates and apply them to the current post view. You manage post views through the Post Processing Navigator.
You can also edit the settings for individual post views or for all post views. See Post view preferences.
Note:
Customer default settings take precedence over the default template when you create a post view.
Master post views and multiple viewport displays
When you work with multiple viewports, you can create and display multiple post views simultaneously.
When you create multiple post views, the last post view you create or edit is the active, or master, post view, and the word (MASTER) appears in the Description column for that post view in the Post Processing Navigator.
In addition, a border appears around the master post view in the graphics window if you have more than one post view displayed so you can easily identify it. Highlighting also appears around the other post views as you select them. You can use the Viewport tab of the Post Processing Preferences dialog box to set the color of the border and the highlighting that appears around post views. You can also turn off the border and the direct selection of post views in the graphics window. Turning off the border is helpful if it interferes with video recordings or screen captures of results.
Note:
If you directly select a post view that contains several post views, for example, it contains overlays, only the last post view is selected. The order is based on the order the post views are listed in the Post Processing Navigator.
Commands on the Results tab are always applied to the master post view. Also, if you double-click a result or results component (or right-click and choose Apply) in the Post Processing Navigator, that new result is displayed in the master post view.
To change the master post view, select a post view in the graphics window or a post view node in the Post Processing Navigator. That post view becomes the new master post view. A border appears around it.
You can select multiple post views, and edit, animate, or view markers for multiple post views simultaneously. To select multiple post views, hold Ctrl and select post views in the graphics window or post view nodes in the Post Processing Navigator. Any changes you make are applied first to the master post view, and then synchronized with all selected post views.
Editing a post view
You can choose how you edit the display of a post view.
To access all options for setting the display from one central location, use the Edit Post View command.
To access frequently used options quickly, use the commands in the Post View and Display groups of the Results tab.
