Create a rotor region

Use the procedure to define rotor regions that you then add to the rotor assembly. In addition to selecting the FE entities that comprise the rotor, you set the coordinate system, speed method, and damping options.

  1. Choose Rotor Dynamics tab→Rotor Modeling group→Define Rotor Region .

  2. In the Region dialog box, in the Rotor Objects (ROTORG) group, select the FE entities that comprise the rotor model in the graphics window to define the rotor region. You can select elements, meshes, or parent geometric entities.

  3. In the Parameters (ROTORD) group, from the CSYS list, select the coordinate system for this rotor. If the absolute coordinate system points to the Z-axis as the rotation axis, select Global. If the absolute coordinate system does not point to the Z-axis as the rotation axis, select a different type of coordinate system and define the Local CSYS with the local Z-axis in the direction of rotation of the rotor. The Z-axis of a rotor always defines the direction of rotation of the rotor.

  4. Set the rotor speed definition and reference frequencies as appropriate for your analysis.

  5. Click OK.
