Removing features from a body
To simplify model geometry by removing features from a body or a region of a body that satisfy certain criteria, or that you explicitly select for removal, use the Idealize Geometry command.
For example, you may want to remove small geometric features that would otherwise cause too many additional elements to be created. Notice the difference between the mesh in and after , in which the two holes have been removed:
Note:
In this example, we are not concerned with stress results around the holes.
To use Idealize Geometry, you must have the idealized part displayed in the graphics window.
Each Idealize Geometry operation you perform is created as a modeling feature within the idealized part. You can view these idealization features in the Part Navigator by right-clicking in an empty area of the Part Navigator and selecting Timestamp Order. Each idealization feature appears under the Model History node as Idealize Body (n).
Idealize Example
The following illustration shows a part containing small blends, holes and faces.
Feature removal was applied, as follows:
All holes of diameter ≤ 10mm
All blends of radius ≤ 5mm
The following illustration shows the idealized model:
About irregular holes
The Idealize Geometry command may not remove holes that have certain irregularities. Examples of such irregularities include:
The hole has been trimmed along a cylindrical face.
The surface containing the hole's edge has been trimmed as shown in the following example.
