Creation of mesh collectors during import (Simcenter Samcef)
When you import a Simcenter Samcef model, the following Samcef data is combined to create mesh collectors, which contain physical properties and meshes:
Element topology (.MAI N)
Element type (.HYP and .MCE N)
Element attribute (.MAI ATT)Note: You can decide if the element attribute acts or not as a filter when creating the mesh collector. For more information on that option, see File Import dialog box (Simcenter Samcef).
Material (.MAT)
Beam section profile (.BPR or .CHB)
Composite or non-composite elementFor these elements, the following criteria also apply:Composites elements with the same sequence of ply IDs and/or angles valuesFor more details, see Importing laminates (Simcenter Samcef).Composite damping (.AMO ALPHA)Homogenization flag (.AEL HOMO)The non local thermodynamic forces flag (.AEL NLOC)
Non-linear flag (.AEL NLIS)
Interstage number (.AEL STAGE)
Incompressibility condition (.AEL BULK)
Thermal capacity term activation (.AEL THB) (fluid element)
Shell thickness (.PHP THICK)
Shell/beam offset (.AEL EXCE, .AEL NEXC, .AEL PEXC)
Non-structural mass (.PHP SMAS/LMAS)
Fluid element cross-sectional surface (.PHP SEC)
Fluid element wetted perimeter (.PHP PRM)
Examples
Here are some examples that illustrate the mesh collector creation process.
| Simcenter Samcef data | Generated mesh collectors, meshes, and physical properties |
|---|---|
| Two Mindlin quadrangular shells that share one material and one thickness | One shell property, one mesh, and one mesh collector |
| Two Mindlin quadrangular shells with different Samcef attributes, but one material and one thickness | Two shell properties, two meshes, and two mesh collectors |
| One Mindlin quadrangular shell, one Mindlin triangular shell, and one material | One shell property, one mesh, and one mesh collectorNote: The triangle is the degenerated form of a quadrangle, so they are grouped in the same mesh. |
| One Mindlin quadrangular shell, one rod, and one material | Two physical properties, two meshes, and two mesh collectors (one for the rod, one for the shell) |
| One Mindlin shell, one volume, and one material | Two physical properties, two meshes, and two mesh collectors |
| Two Mindlin quadrangular shells, two materials, and one thickness | Two physical properties, two meshes, and two mesh collectors |
| Two Mindlin quadrangular shells, one single material, one thickness, and two different shells offsets | Two physical properties, two meshes, and two mesh collectors |
| Linear hexahedral elements connected to parabolic tetrahedral elements with hybrid (transition) elements. | Two physical properties, three meshes, and three mesh collectors (includes one mesh collector for the transition elements) |
Element degeneration during import of meshes
In Simcenter Samcef, degenerated elements are of two types:
Degeneration from redundant numbering in the element definition. In this case, the element is automatically degenerated to its corresponding transition element. For instance, the import automatically replaces a quadrangle defined as .MAI I 1 N 1 2 3 3 by its transition triangle .MAI I 1 N 1 2 3.
Degeneration from coincident nodes. In this case, the element is not degenerated to its transition element and therefore is imported with no change. For instance, the import of a quadrangle defined as .MAI I 1 N 1 2 3 4, where node 2 and node 3 are coincident, is not converted to a triangle.
For more details on the Simcenter Samcef element degeneration, see the Simcenter Samcef solver documentation.
