Measure distance between nodes

Use the Measure Simple Distance tool to quickly measure distances between nodes in post-processing. It lets you interactively select a node or enter a node ID. You can use deformed or undeformed coordinates and switch between them. The output can be to the graphics window or the Information window, which provides additional information, such as coordinate locations.

Note:

Measuring distance between nodes is only available when you set the color display to contour plot. The nodes must be displayed in the post view and not hidden, such as clipped from the view by a cutting plane.

  1. Choose Results tab→Tools group→Measure Simple Distance .

  2. Select the first node to measure from. Interactively from the model. In the Start Node group, from the Method list, choose Pick from Model and then select a node directly from the model.By selecting a node ID.From the Method list, choose By Node ID. Enter a node number and click Apply ID String .

  3. (Optional) To use the deformed value of the selected node in the measurement calculation, in the Start Node group, select the Use Displayed Deformed Coordinates check box. Percentage represents the scale factor specified in the Edit Post View dialog box. For a 1:1 measurement, a scale factor of 1 Absolute should be specified.

  4. Select the node to measure to. Interactively from the model. In the End Node group, from the Method list, choose Pick from Model and then select a node directly from the model.By selecting a node ID.From the Method list, choose By Node ID. Enter a node number and click Apply ID String .

  5. (Optional) To use the deformed value of the selected node in the measurement calculation, in the End Node group, select the Use Displayed Deformed Coordinates check box.

Display measurement information

View the measurement data and coordinate values in the Information window in HTML format, where you can hide or display sections, as well as edit, save, and print the data.

  • In the Simple Distance dialog box, click List Information .
