Model phase change in a thermal or coupled model
To model phase change scenarios in Simcenter 3D Thermal, you must mesh the phase change part with a mesh that has enough elements to account for a continuous phase change process. You need a minimum of 4 to 5 elements normal to the phase change front.
In the Isotropic Material dialog box, on the Thermal page, in the Thermal and Thermal Phase Change groups, enter the following thermal properties:Temperature dependent or constant **Thermal conductivity (K)**Temperature dependent or constant Specific Heat (CP) and Specific Heat Above Phase ChangeConstant Phase Change Temperature and optionally Phase Change Temperature RangeTemperature dependent or constant Latent heat (L)
Right click the Solution node and choose Edit.
From the Solution Type list, select Transient. Any material transformation process is a transient phenomenon.
On the Transient Setup page, from the Time Step list, select Constant.
Set the time step.
On the Results Option page, in the Thermal group, select the Phase Change Quality check box.
Click OK
Set the flow time step if your model is coupled with a flow solution.Right click the Solution node and select Solver Parameters. On the 3D Flow Solver page, in the Time Step box, type the value you calculated for the thermal time step.Click OK.
Solve the model.
