Reflecting nodes

Use Node Reflect to reflect selected nodes across a plane. You can choose to just reflect a set of nodes to the opposite side of a plane, or copy and reflect those nodes. For example, you can create half of the necessary nodes for a model (A) and then copy and reflect them to create a symmetric finite element model (B). You can also choose to simply reflect the nodes across a plane (C).

Identifying possible coincident nodes

Depending on the nodes you select to reflect, some may lie on or very close to the reflection plane itself. If you choose to copy and reflect those nodes, the software may create coincident nodes at those locations. You can use the Nodes option on the Model Check dialog box to identify and eliminate any coincident nodes before you solve your model. See Duplicate Nodes dialog box for more information.

Where do I find it?

  • Choose Nodes and Elements tab→Nodes group→Node Reflect .

  • Choose MenuEdit→Node→Reflect.
