Controlling the export of nodes connected to flow elements

In Coupled Flow-Structural or Coupled Thermal-Flow Structural analyses in the Multiphysics environment, you can use the Export Node Connected Only to Flow Elements option to control whether the software exports the nodes associated with the following element types:

  • Duct

  • Fluid Linear Tetrahedron

  • Fluid Parabolic Tetrahedron

  • Fluid Linear Hexahedron

  • Fluid Parabolic Hexahedron

  • Fluid Linear Wedge

  • Fluid Parabolic Wedge

  • Fluid Linear Pyramid

  • Fluid Parabolic Pyramid

Because these elements do not have a structural equivalent, the software does not write them to the solver input file when you export or solve a solution. In previous releases, the software always wrote their nodes to the solver input file. You can now use the Export Node Connected Only to Flow Elements option to control whether these nodes are exported. Not exporting these nodes reduces the time required to export or solve your solution.

  • Select the Export Node Connected Only to Flow Elements check box to export the nodes for these element types to the solver input file.

  • Clear the Export Node Connected Only to Flow Elements check box to prevent the software from exporting the nodes for these element types to the solver input file. The software issues a message in the diagnostics file that indicates the number of nodes that were not exported.

The software always exports nodes that are:

  • Not connected to any element (orphan or dangling nodes).

  • Connected to at least one structural element. This includes nodes that are shared between a structural element and a flow element at the interface between the two mesh types.Nodes at the interface between a structural mesh (1) and a fluid mesh (2). The software always exports the nodes that are shared between structural and fluid elements.
