Adaptive meshing workflow
| Step | Summary | Detailed help topic |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Build the finite element model. | In the Pre/Post application, create the mesh, define the appropriate material properties, and define geometry-based boundary conditions. | Pre-processing requirements for adaptive meshing |
| 2. Create the solution. | Define an Adaptive solution process within the context of an existing solution. Not all solution types currently support adaptive meshing. | Supported solution types for adaptive meshing |
| 3. Solve the model (optional). | Create an Adaptive solution process either with or without existing analysis results. | |
| 4. Create the Adaptive solution process. | With the appropriate solution active in the Simulation Navigator, create the Adaptive solution process.Use the options in the Adaptive Meta Solution dialog box to do the following: Define the accuracy parameters to use to evaluate the mesh quality.Specify options to control the adaptive meshing process, such as the maximum number of iterations and the permitted scope of remeshing.Control whether you want the software to automatically detect singularities. | Specifying accuracy parameters for adaptive meshingSpecifying the mesh parameters for adaptive meshingSingularities in adaptive meshing |
| 5. Define adaptivity zones (optional). | If there are regions of your model that you want to exclude from mesh refinement, create the necessary suppression zones. You can also create a refinement zone if you want to limit the adaptive refinement to just one region of the model. | Excluding parts of the model from adaptive meshingRefining specific parts of an adaptive mesh |
| 6. Solve the Adaptive solution process. | The software iteratively solves the solution and remeshes the model until the following happens:The solution converges. The software reaches the maximum number of specified iterations. | Understanding the adaptive refinement process |
| 7. Examine the results in post-processing. | After the adaptive meshing process completes, you can review the results of the adaptive solution in the Post Processing Navigator. | Viewing adaptive meshing results |
