Element Extrude dialog box

General options

Type
Type Controls whether the software extrudes element edges or element faces.Select Element Edges to extrude the edges of 1D or 2D elements to create new 2D elements.Select Element Faces to extrude the faces of 2D elements to create new 3D elements.
Elements
Select Element Edges/Select Element Faces Lets you select the elements to extrude.
Direction
Direction Controls how the software extrudes the elements. For more information, see Selecting an element extrusion method.Select Along Vector to extrude the elements along a specified vector. With this method, you can specify an optional Twist Angle to have the software rotate the elements about a selected point during the extrusion. See Along Vector options for information on the options specific to this methodSelect Along Path to extrude the elements along a specified path. See Along Path options below for information on the options specific to this method.Select Project to Surface to extrude elements along any selected vector to a target surface. See Project to Surface options below for information on the options specific to this method.Select Element Normal to extrude elements along their normals. This option is only available if you extrude element faces. See Element Normal options below for information on the options specific to this method.Select Radial to extrude element edges or faces along a radius. See Radial options below for information on the options specific to this method.
Element Properties
Type Specifies the specific type of element to create.
Edit Mesh Associated Data Appears when you select an element type that requires the definition of additional properties.Opens the Mesh Associated Data dialog box where you can define solver-specific properties for the elements. The software applies these properties uniformly to all the elements in the mesh. For more information, see Mesh-associated data.
Destination Collector/Mesh
Retain Collector Controls whether the software places the newly created elements into the same collector as the parent mesh of the selected elements.Select the Retain Collector check box to place the new elements into the same collector as the original 2D element edges or 3D element faces.Clear the Retain Collector check box to either automatically create a new collector or to place the new elements into a different collector.
Automatic Creation Select Automatic Creation to have the software automatically create a new destination collector for the current mesh. If you select this option, the software creates a collector using the default physical properties and inherits the material properties of the idealized part.Clear the Automatic Creation check box to choose an existing mesh collector from the Mesh Collector list.
Mesh Collector Lets you select an existing collector. Click New Collector to use the Mesh Collector dialog box to create additional mesh collectors. See Mesh collectors for more information.
Destination Mesh
Destination Mesh Controls the mesh node into which the software places the new elements.Create New creates a new mesh node on the Simulation Navigator. The software places the new elements into that new node.Add to Existing places the new elements into an existing mesh node on the Simulation Navigator.
Export Mesh to Solver Available when Type is set to Element Edges.Controls whether the software includes the 2D mesh data in your solver input file when you export or solve the model. If you plan to use this 2D mesh as only a seed mesh for a 3D mesh, you should clear this check box.
Label
Label Specifies the starting label for the new elements.
Increment Specifies the increment the software should use for each successive element label.
Preview
Preview Preview automatically previews the appearance of the extruded elements once you have specified the minimum options necessary.
Show Result Show Result previews the extruded elements based upon your current selections.

Along Vector options

Specify Vector Lets you specify the vector along which to extrude the elements.
Reverse Direction Reverses the extrusion direction along the selected vector.
Distance
Distance option Controls how you specify the distance to extrude the elements.Per Copy specifies the distance the software should translate each copy of the selected elements.Total specifies the total distance the software should translate all copies of the selected elements.
Distance Specifies the distance to extrude the elements.
Twist Angle
Specify Point Lets you specify a point about which to rotate the elements as the software extrudes them.
Angle Specifies the angle of the rotation about the selected point.

Along Path options

Select Path Lets you select the path along which to extrude the elements.
Reverse Direction Reverses the extrusion direction along the selected path.

Project to Surface options

Specify Vector Lets you specify the vector along which to extrude the elements.
Reverse Direction Reverses the extrusion direction along the selected vector.
% Offset to Surface Specifies the percentage of the distance to the target surface to offset the elements. For example:Specify 100% to have the software project the elements directly onto the target surface.Specify 50% to have the software project the elements to a location that's halfway between the original surface and the target surface.
Select Surface Lets you select the surface to which to extrude the elements.

Element Normal options

Reverse Direction Reverses the extrusion direction along the element's normal.
Distance option Controls how you specify the distance to extrude the elements.Choose Per Copy to specify the distance the software should translate each copy of the selected elements.Choose Total to specify the total distance the software should translate all copies of the selected elements.
Distance Specifies the distance to extrude the elements.

Radial options

Specify Vector Available when Direction is set to Radial.Lets you specify a vector that defines the axis about which to extrude the elements.
Specify Point Available when Direction is set to Radial.Lets you select the point through which the axis passes.
Distance option Controls how you specify the distance to extrude the elements.Choose Per Copy to specify the distance the software should translate each copy of the selected elements.Choose Total to specify the total distance the software should translate all copies of the selected elements.
Distance Specifies the distance to extrude the elements.
