3D Element Face Normals dialog box
| Elements to Check | |
|---|---|
| Elements to Check | Specifies the elements to include in the check.Displayed — Checks the consistency of the element normals of all 3D elements that are currently displayed.Selected — Checks the consistency of the element normals of selected elements. |
| Select Object | Available when Elements to Check is set to Selected.Lets you select the elements that the software checks. |
| Element Labels | Available when Elements to Check is set to Selected.Lets you add elements to the selection.Use a space or comma to separate your entries.Use a colon or a dash to add a range of element labels. For example, enter 1:10 or 1-10 to add all the element labels from 1 to 10.Use colons to add an incremented range of element labels. For example, enter:1:9:2 to add element labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.1:10:2 to add element labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10.10:1:-2 to add element labels 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.Press enter or click Select to add your entries. To edit your selection, click Edit Element Selection . |
| Display Settings | |
| Display Settings | Positive Face Color — Green faces of elements indicate positive faces and the element normals are oriented outward (away from the material).Note: For the positive and negative colors to display properly with the Face Color option, ensure that you always select elements not meshes.Negative Face Color — Red faces of elements indicates negative faces and the element normals are oriented inward (also referred to as left-handed elements).Note: You can modify the default display colors by clicking the Positive Face Color or Negative Face Color in the 3D Element Face Normals dialog box. |
| Display | The software displays the normals for all 3D elements on the selected faces. It displays the elements in two colors; green faces of elements show the positive faces of the 3D elements and red faces of elements show the negative faces of the 3D elements. If the software detects inward-oriented elements, the Re-orient Left-Handed Elements and Create Group of Left-Handed Elements commands become available. |
| Re-orient Left-Handed Elements | Reverses the connectivity of the inward-oriented elements found in the selected elements. For example, if the software created an element’s nodes in the order of 1, 12, 13, 2, 122, 133, 134, 123, the order changes to1, 2, 13, 12, 122, 123, 134, and 133.Note: This reversing action is possible only when the FEM file is the displayed part. |
| Create Group of Left-Handed Elements | Creates a new group containing only the inward-oriented 3D elements. This group is useful for inspecting the element connectivity in more detail. |
