Simulation File View

The Simulation File View is a panel within the Simulation Navigator. You can use this panel to:

  • View all loaded parts as well as all FEM and Simulation files within their hierarchical relationship to the master part.

  • Change the part being displayed. The icon and name of the currently displayed part are shown in color.

  • Create new FEM and Simulation files for any design or idealized part without having to first display the part.

Simulation Navigator view is saved automatically

When you save a FEM, assembly FEM, or Simulation file, the software stores the current Simulation Navigator view and restores it when you reopen that file. When you create a new FEM, assembly FEM, or Simulation file, the software uses the view specified by the Default Navigator View customer default to set the Simulation Navigator view. Simulation Navigator views are useful for large FEM models that contain multiple physical property tables, materials, meshes, and boundary layers.

You can change the Simulation Navigator view to any view that is supported by the current file type. Right-click the Name column heading and select one of the views. For example:

  • FEM files support all Simulation Navigator views.

  • Assembly FEM and Simulation files support the Standard and Mesh views only.

Finding related data

When a FEM or an assembly FEM is the displayed part in the Simulation Navigator, or when a Simulation file is the displayed part and the FEM or assembly FEM is the work part, you can select any of the following files to see the same file selected in the Simulation File View panel:

  • FEM

  • Assembly FEM

  • Idealized part

  • CAD part

In the Simulation File View panel, the list scrolls automatically to the same file you selected, so it is visible.

Teamcenter Integration and Simulation Search View

If you are running Teamcenter Integration with the Teamcenter for Simulation data model, you can use the Simulation Search View with the Simulation File View panel to query Teamcenter for CAE items related to the current item. For more information, see Using Simulation File View in Teamcenter Integration.

Simulation-centric, part-centric, and idealized part views

In the Simulation File View panel, you can control whether you view the list of parts from a simulation-centric or part-centric point of view. By default, the Simulation File View panel lists the files in a simulation-centric view. This means that the current Simulation or assembly FEM file appears at the top of the hierarchy, and the master part appears at the bottom of the hierarchy. To switch to a part-centric view where the loaded master part appears at the top of the hierarchy, right-click the Session node at the top of the hierarchy tree and choose Part Centric View.

You can also view the list of parts from an idealized part point of view by right-clicking the Session node and choosing Idealized Part View. When Idealized Part View is active, the Simulation File View panel lists the Simulation file at the top of the hierarchy, followed by the assembly FEM, subassembly FEMs, and idealized parts; with master parts appearing at the bottom of the hierarchy.

In the idealized part view, component and subassembly FEMs are excluded from the hierarchy so you can easily identify idealized and master parts.

Hiding unused parts

By default, the Simulation File View panel lists all files open in the current session. The view can become cluttered and difficult to navigate if, for example, you have loaded a large assembly FEM with many ignored CAD components. To hide all parts not currently used in any loaded CAE model, right-click on the Session node at the top of the hierarchy tree and choose Hide Unused Parts. To re-display unused parts, right-click the Session node and choose Show Unused Parts.
