Create a table field along a parametric line

This procedure shows how to map a table field to a parametric line from the Simulation Navigator.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the Fields node and choose New FieldTable.

  2. On the Independent Domain page, from the Independent list, choose Parameter.

  3. From the Type list, choose Parametric Line.

  4. Select the points, edges, or points and edges to define the parametric line. When selecting a series of continuous edges, select near the starting point of each edge in a consistent fashion. For example, in the figure, all three edges are selected near their starting points in a consistent fashion.****Each object you select is numbered in the graphics window to indicate your selection sequence. If necessary, you can click Reverse Path Direction to reverse the sequence of objects.

  5. On the Dependent Domain page, from the Dependent list, choose the dependent domain.

  6. On the Definition page, enter the tabular data.Location on the parametric line is measured by a parametric coordinate that ranges from 0 at the beginning of the line to 1 at the end of the line.

  7. Click OK.

  8. To display the field along the edge, in the Simulation Navigator, under the Fields node, select the check box next to your field name.****
